Mark Word, the all time leading sacker in FWL history by far ( http://www.fwl.org.uk/career.htm#T9 ) who retired 47 sacks ahead of his nearest rival finally called it a day after 14 superb seasons.

Word had 10 or more sacks for 12 seasons and his lowest sack total was 8 !

Word was originally drafted by Sacramento in Round 1 at the end of the 2002 season, he helped transform the Surge from laughing stock into a playoff contender and the highlight was a win in FWL Bowl X, Marks 4th season.  Word made the All-FWL team for the first 4 of his 5 seasons in the FWL and made a lot of sacks and tackles.  He was part of the huge move to London when the Surge GM moved to London and took 5 players with him.  Word instantly started and was a success in London as well.

He nearly retired two years ago but came back to have 15 sacks, again there were rumours he would retire last year but again he decided to play another year and had 11 sacks and some fine games.  Word decided to retire at the top and had a briliant 14 year career and looking at the all time sack lists only really Michael Josiah stands a chance to catch him but he needs to average 12 sacks over the next 4 seasons to catch up and Josiah enters his 11th year.

A brilliant player and who finished his career with 468 tackles
