Title: Wild cards better off staying home? Post by: jcompton-Orlando on May 14, 2008, 04:52:04 PM Just browsed the history files. Out of the 36 times a team has reached the FWL bowl, only four of those times has the team been a wild card playoff entrant. And of those, only once has the wildcard team actually won the title (season 12, Montreal over Amsterdam.)
Not too shocking, since winning the championship as a wild card almost assuredly means having to win three straight road games (very, very rarely does that #4 seed win its first-round game)--and a team capable of winning three straight road games over playoff-grade teams probably isn't finishing in wild card position. But still. Title: Re: Wild cards better off staying home? Post by: Paul-London on May 15, 2008, 08:31:24 AM Got your figures wrong there ;)
Amsterdam were the wildcard team last year and beat 10-4 London then 10-4 Berlin on the road before beating 10-4 Mexico on the road in the FWL Bowl. But yeah overall its very rare but amazing final run by Amsterdam last year to win those 3 straight games Title: Re: Wild cards better off staying home? Then the "history" files at http://www.fwl.org.uk/history.htm can't be trusted for this sort of thing, as it credits Amsterdam with a first-place finish.

Well found ! For standings i always use stand17.htm , stand18.htm etc etc |
