Title: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Paul-London on April 15, 2005, 03:36:00 AM What does everything think of having a 'live' draft this year ?
Its based on the idea from David Harwood who runs a live draft for his league. Basically we'll have a chatroom set up and we all go there a certain time, theres a set time for each team to put their pick in , eg 5 minutes or so. It could be good for rounds 1-4 and then the rest we could do as normal offline. It'll be hard for the american GM's (just like its hard for the european ones in Davids league) but to them it would be just the same as any other year if they email me what they want. Could be a lot of fun and if we get enough people , eg 7 of us or more then its well worth doing. It would be run at the weekend and shouldnt take too long, could just do a live rounds 1-2 its up to everyone Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Niki on April 15, 2005, 04:18:00 AM it is depending when it is, I can say yes now but when the date suitable for me it can change in a no ::)
In general i would say yes :) Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Paul-London on April 15, 2005, 06:27:36 AM Well we'll try to get as many people as possible to decide on a time, do it a sunday morning or sunday evening perhaps.
Whoever says yes we'll then talk to and arrange a time that everyones happy with I know you said yes Niki but anyone else who says YES please tell me who it is so we can email and arrange a time nearer the date. Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Andrew-Neutral on April 15, 2005, 06:59:42 AM I'd like to participate. Couple of potential problems - I've never used Internet Relay Chat (what a Luddite!) and my home internet connection is painfully slow. I wonder if I'd be able to manage it. That said, our exchange will be broadbanded soon.
I'd suggest a Sunday evening, UK time, eg. 10PM. Those in Europe will have to stay up late, and those in 'Merika will have to get up early. Think of it as payback for all the times we have to stay up all night to watch Tampa Bay beat Oakland in the Super Bowl (sorry Paul!). Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Niki on April 15, 2005, 07:01:10 AM maybe we can work something out with msn, yahoo, icq or what ever, that is easier I think then a chat room
Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Mario ADK on April 15, 2005, 07:41:20 AM why don´t we keep it simple?
We always know "whos up next" to pick so we even could to it via THIS FORUM!!! Everyone is logged, Paul is the moderator. Paul opens by allowing GM#1 to pick first - he picks by announcing it to the board, Paul confirmes and allows GM#2 to pick etc etc etc.... simple? Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: velcro on April 15, 2005, 07:47:43 AM I'm definately up for it.
Not sure about the forum idea Mario as its difficult for Paul to see who is around and whether or not he has to step in and make a pick for someone. 10pm on a Sunday Night would be good, avoid days of NFLE games though - some of us still go to those after all :-) Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Mario ADK on April 15, 2005, 07:50:02 AM Not sure about the forum idea Mario as its difficult for Paul to see who is around and whether or not he has to step in and make a pick for someone. I disagree: Any GM should have 3 min until he has to submit his post(=coice). If not ==> Paul picks on the basis of the list the GM has handed over in advance. Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: velcro on April 15, 2005, 08:00:00 AM Thats a lot of waiting around if someone should disappear.
The other reason I don't like the forum is that you have to manually refresh the page when a post is made. Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Andrew-Neutral on April 15, 2005, 08:58:10 AM How about we all get together in one place and do the draft just like the NFL. I'd suggest where central, like Yorkshire, for the venue. Mario can pay for everyone's plane tickets, I'll pay for lunch in the curry house down the road. Simple! ;D
Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Paul-London on April 15, 2005, 09:03:21 AM The forum idea could be good, like ROss says you have to keep pressing refresh though
What i envisage is that before the draft i have the draft lists of the owners you cant make it. Say 5 of them. Then the 9 of us are either here (we can make sure theres no false people in a chatroom you see) and i have the draft lists of the other 5. When its one of their turns i simply say "San Antonio pick....." I would say 5 minutes per pick, thats the maximum as if you know who you want then you put instantly who it is. I wouldnt say 10pm GMT though, i mean in California thats 2pm GMT, latest perhaps 4pm GMT (8am California) or if most american GM's cant make it we'll do it early one sunday morning. And hey the polls only 3 saying yes at the moment despite 5 of us here who are saying yes ! Get voting ! The FWL season should end about end of May, give it some time for trading and the draft list should be finished early early June or late May after the playoffs. If each team has 3 minutes actually (perhaps 5 is too long) then say half the GM's turn up (9) then thats 27 minutes per round plus 3 minutes or so for me to give you the results from the other GM's. Each round would last about 30 mins, just do 4 rounds (i think the last 4 rounds should be how we normally do it) and thats 2 hours at the max which isnt bad. If people do know who they want and dont mess around waiting till the last minute then it could get finished in 1 hr 30 Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Paul-London on April 15, 2005, 12:47:53 PM Perhaps we should have a draft on a sunday at 4pm or 5pm so that way the Americans can join in on the early rounds. If its 2 or 3 minutes each per person then it should all be over by 7pm easily
Be great if we have a fair few. Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Mario ADK on April 15, 2005, 01:35:28 PM paul i would suggest EVERY GM submits his list to you. What if internet-connection is suddenly down? the list would be backup in those cases and you would act the way you usually act: you pick the top of the players on the list as the drafted player.
Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Paul-London on April 16, 2005, 08:37:14 AM Yeah i agree, just in case the worst happens
Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Stuart-Barcelona on April 16, 2005, 02:57:34 PM I think this sounds like a great idea, A Sunday would be good but how about say 6 o'clock?
give each team 2 or 3 minutes and it could be over in a few hours. Count me in! Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Miguel - Rhein Fire on April 17, 2005, 03:36:20 PM Hola amigos,
yeah! I will participate when possible... It's great fun to chat with all guys together and see the live progress of the draft. It is also more easy to react to any "chaotic" process ;D But it's a long process of two hours where the GMs should have time to sit in front of the desktop... ::) It is really very funny! After the experience made today with the FIFL i will participate as often as i can for future plans... The question is if this will help to bring back Rhein Fire to success... i don't think so :P Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Marco_Frankfurt on April 18, 2005, 01:43:22 AM Hi,
I am the one 'no' vote. It is a good idea and in principle I would like to participate, but knowing my weekends and also because of family I dont think I would be able to sit 2-3 hours just at my PC to watch and participate. Maybe if I have only lets say my 1st rounder left I will participate for that round ;-) Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Mario ADK on April 18, 2005, 02:04:03 AM Marco: In order to make it possible for you to participate in the live-draft i offer my 8th rounder for your picks 2nd to 8th.
So you would notneed to worry about spending too much time in front of the PC ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Would you participate in a 'live' draft for Rounds 1-4 ? Post by: Paul-London on April 18, 2005, 04:18:25 AM Well i'm sure nearly everyone could participate in at least round 1. I'll do the same as Davids league.
Rounds 1-4 will be 'live' but rounds 5-8 the normal way of doing things. If someone after round 2 hasnt got the time then again they can email me their list for rounds 3-4 and then they wont spend much time in front of the computer. I know what Marco means, i was involved in a live draft yesterday and the wife wasnt happy as i was in front of the computer tons (had to do the FWL games earlier in the day). However logging on for 20 minutes to make sure you do your 1st round pick i'm sure most people could do. Havent heard anything from the Munros but i'm sure Ronnie would like to take part. |
