Title: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 04, 2005, 12:18:22 PM I've attempted to put together the longest winning and losing streaks for each team - here they are;
Team Longest Winning Streak Longest losing Streak New York 8 7 Orlando 5 5 Ohio 7 5 Birmingham 7 6 Sacramento 8 6 San Antonio 10 8 Mexico 6 9 Raleigh-Durham 6 9 Montreal 10 26 Frankfurt 9 5 Amsterdam 7 12 Berlin 7 11 Rhein 13 4 London 5 8 Scottish 10 17 Barcelona 8 8 Austria 11 11 Paris 5 9 So Montreal lost 26 in a row - a streak of Buccaneer proportions! Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Niki on May 04, 2005, 02:23:52 PM haha Andrew I do know the ads by head winning should be 8.
Interesting to see Orlando 5 vs 5 Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Mario ADK on May 05, 2005, 02:27:16 AM To be honest: To turn around a franchise from a 26-game losing streak to a dominant force is an incredible achievment.
Congrats to David, very well done..... thumbs up! ***edited for grammatical reasons - sorry for all the wrong words i write down, i do not check what i write before i post it - i am too lazy for that....*** Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 05, 2005, 03:59:27 AM I should have said - it is regular season games only - upto the end of season 12.
Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Paul-London on May 06, 2005, 05:01:09 AM I totally agree with the turnaround by David with Montreal.
The Machine were a totally disasterous pile of crap (not to be rude !) but the way David transformed the club in a Jimmy Johnson style way was amazing to see. 3 World Bowl wins in 4 years as well probably wont be beaten for a very long time. Hes currently still updating the roster with young stars such as DT Paul Spicer and HB Corey Walker (Great trade) and it'll be interesting to see what happens to Danny Wuerffel the next few seasons. But yeah a helluva job with Montreal and theyre still competitive like anything despite being in a tough division Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 06, 2005, 06:30:24 AM I've got the results of every game from the first 12 seasons in a CSV file. If anyone wants it, to do their own analysis, please drop me an email.
Quick trivia question - what was special about week 5 of season 10 in the FWL? Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 06, 2005, 06:38:15 AM Another trivia snippet - week 6 of season 8 was a week of tight games;
Scottish 13 : Rhein 9 Sacramento 16 : Orlando 18 Raleigh-Durham 15 : San Antonio 21 Paris 20 : New York 13 Montreal 27 : Barcelona 30 London 10 : Ohio 13 Berlin 17 : Frankfurt 16 Austria 16 : Birmingham 17 Amsterdam 24 : Mexico 25 3 games decided by a single point, the biggest margin of victory was Paris's 7-point thrashing of NY. This was the closest week of games in FWL history. Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Marco_Frankfurt on May 06, 2005, 08:15:25 AM Hi Andrew,
as a real statistic freak I would like to get that file or if you are entering the season 13 games soon, then I can wait that long anyway. Great Work ! :) Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 06, 2005, 08:55:47 AM Marco,
File is on its way - season 13 will be added as soon as the season is finished. I use the All Time Results script to pull the results out of the FWL schedules for each season - not much work involved! Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 06, 2005, 08:58:16 AM Oops - Marco, the file I sent has the home and road teams the wrong way round! The home team is in the third column.

This was the only week when 8 out of the 9 away teams won. The only home team to win won in OT. Title: Re: Streaks Post by: jcompton-Orlando on May 10, 2005, 11:31:04 AM Orlando, Paris, and London clearly need a stronger will to win. :)
Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 10, 2005, 11:59:23 AM yeah, it's weird how these three teams have only managed to win 5 in a row (not too surprising for Paris ???). I never realised Montreal's losing streak went on for so long, so all credit to David for turning it round. Of course, winning streaks are harder to come by, so Rhein's 13 game streak is pretty damn impressive.
And well done to Austria for going from one extreme to the other - winning 11 in a row, and losing 11 in a row. Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Paul-London on May 11, 2005, 10:22:24 AM How did you find out those streaks ? Did you do it by hand ?
The Rhein streak i'll have to document in a story sometime in the future. If i had tons of free time i would LOVE to create an FWL style bible for the first 10 seasons of the league, eg every result and a small write up and stats and top players etc. So tempted to do it just time at the moment sadly !!! But yes a ton of credit to David who took over a terrible Montreal team If i look back at the FWL and i'm asked what my biggest mistake was it was letting David Bridson dismantle the Austria team and give players away practically for free. At the time i honestly believed him when he said theres no fun taking over a 13-1 team and he wants to create his own powerhouse, it kinda sounded alright to me (now it doesnt !) but then when he flippin left a season later it totally ruined everything. I'll make sure that never happens again, my fault for being an idiot there. I get what he means, to me sometimes its boring believe it or not going 10-4 every year, its much more fun and satisfying when you build a team up from 3-11 to a championship. When i did that with the Surge it was great, maintaining it like David has done with Montreal is amazing but the way he took the team from 0-14 to a championship is the best though and then 3 championships in 4 years ! But yeah i wish i could turn back time and sack David Bridson instantly from the FWL before he gave away the players, he made Levi look like a genius really. Shame Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Andrew-Neutral on May 11, 2005, 11:20:48 AM Latest News - Streak are now updated to include season 13 regular season games;
To do these, I have all the results in a spreadsheet and have a little macro to get the streaks. I notice San Antonio now have a 13-game winning streak - which extended from week 5 of season 12 to week 3 of season 13. Title: Re: Streaks Post by: Paul-London on May 11, 2005, 12:09:59 PM Interesting to see their winning streak stopped at 13 which was the record ! Orlando beat them by just 2 points (31-29) and San Antonio won their next 3 games so that streak could have been 17 !
Reminds me of a Tyson fight years ago, he was fighting one of the Spinks brothers i think it was, i think he had won something like 49 straight fights and was about to set a record beating Rocky Marcianos but Tyson totally destroyed him and the record was never broken. |
