Title: Which player has the most rings ?
Post by: Paul-London on May 11, 2005, 12:21:28 PM
Just updating some players on the alltime.htm page

Players with 4 or more rings (this isnt including offensive linemen etc)...

DE Steve Akers - 4 Bowl rings (1 with Austria, 3 with Montreal)
LB Brett Fields - 4 Bowl rings (1 with Austria, 3 with Montreal)
WR Andy McCullough - 4 FWL Bowl rings (1 with Austria, 3 with Montreal (See a pattern emerging here ?!)
CB Pascal Ritzheim - 4 FWL Bowl rings (But did play in 5 FWL Bowls, 1 loss with Birmingham, 1 win with Austria, 3 with Montreal)
CB Ernie Short - Several players have 3 FWL Bowl rings but Short has 3 FWL Bowl rings and has played in an amazing 8 championship games winning 3 of them.

Short played in....

3 Wildcard Games
8 Championship games (had 8 WC wins then)
3 FWL Bowls (3 games)

So Short was in 22 playoff games !!! 11 Wildcard games (won 8 of them), 8 Championship games (Won 3 of them) and won 3 FWL Bowl's !!!!

Some interesting players are...

S Kevin Gaines - ONLY player to have an int EVERY year and also made the playoffs every year (7 years)
LB Willie Walker - ONLY player to have a sack every year of his career for over 10 years (record of 11 years)
HB Ontiwaun Carter - 10 out of his 11 years in the playoffs
QB Stoney Case - every year a playoff year (10 years)
HB Bobby Phillips - 10 out of his 11 years in the playoffs (10 straight)

That's interesting, the Austria/Montreal connection. Who was running Austria when those players went over to Montreal?

I presume David Bridson.  Bridson shed most of his players for virtually nothing, i cant talk, i did get Ernie Short but i did try and give something half decent in return.  Some players went for nothing, i had to persuade David back then to at least trade them rather than cut them.

But like i keep saying i was stupid for letting those trades go ahead....

http://www.fwl.org.uk/trades7.htm

CB Pascal Ritzheim, S Tony George, LB Brett Fields, DE Steve Akers, C David Diaz-Infante, T Thomas Soeker for 4th, 6th and 7th round draft picks from Montreal !

Many others like that.

Looking at the trades you can see why Montreal got powerful very quickly, another trade was ...

WR Andy McCullough, CB Mark Wyatt and C Terry Vlasic for  5th and 7th round draft picks.  Cant blame David Harwood for saying yes !

Bridson did do some 'okayish' trades...

C Dyson, T Daterman, DE Sanders, CB Holmes (Austria) for 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th round draft picks (Amsterdam)

CB Ernie Short for 3rd and 7th round draft picks and a 2nd rounder the following year (Sacramento)

Still not great deals.

AND then after all these draft picks he got the following draft had 'classics' such as....

Round 1 4th overall QB Carlos Alrimirano
Round 1 14th overall C Tom Ashworth

Both Ashworth and Arimirano (http://www.fwl.org.uk/teams8.htm#A17) didnt even make the roster !

Looking at the FA QB.....

QB         Alrimirano, Carlos       OK     R     52 55 64 86 69 71 85 76

I presume he wanted a QB with best ST and IN that was that !!!  Alrimirano was the result !

What is also interesting from seeing the FA's that year is that NY QB Phil Stambaugh was on it !

Stambaugh was the next to last player chosen in the draft ( http://www.fwl.org.uk/drafteos7.htm ) , was a FA all year ( http://www.fwl.org.uk/teams8.htm#A31 ) and didnt join NY until a season later.  Have to remember to edit the alltime.htm file to add Stambaughs first season as 'did not play'

Also noticed one of the worst FA names ever from the rosters on Season 9...

QB         Small, Willie            OK     R     46 52 33 73 55 28 59 52  !!!
