Title: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Paul-London on November 04, 2005, 10:16:06 AM
Updated alltime.htm and history.htm.  In history.htm i have to add the rankings offensively and defensively for each team but all the records are completed.

alltime.htm is interesting to see players careers, if there are any players you want me to add then add their season by season stats here and i'll put them in.  Make sure they have a good set of records already or are a promising player with good stats in his first few seasons . I wont add just anyone to the list

Updated alltime.htm and history.htm.

Can´t "all-time" not be shifted to the left-hand bar? it is so strange where it is right now.... should percetly fit to "GM-stats" and "records" in the bar.....

My main concern is "records" though. the missing years really really hurt us as it makes "records" almost worthless..... can there something be done against it?

btw:
am i correct that "GM stats" is also broke (missing some years)?

@Mario: we had that discussion earlier this season, if I am correct andrew is busy with the previous missing years. I will make an excel sheet with the records at the end of the season. But first my main job is doing the new draftees names.

regarding the GM stats: they are correct more or less, I will look if I can double check them and make adjustments

regarding the GM stats: they are correct more or less, I will look if I can double check them and make adjustments

nope, they are not. we had a discussion weeks ago where we found out that at least one year is missing.....

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Niki on November 05, 2005, 08:24:10 AM
to be correct, they are more or less good ::)

we played 13 season so 13*14*18 = 3,276, if I count all GM's vic, losses and ties I come to a total of 3,192. So we miss 84 games :o

Interesting detail is that the winn are not equal to the losses 1,625 vs 1,537 but that are 88!

Also interesting looking at the playoffs: 91 vs 89. I think we lost 1 GM in the overview, who played 6 years! (6*14=84) and lost twice in the wildcards!

If you want I can forward you the excel file with the records!

@Paul: now I have it in excel, I can update it for you after the season and forward it to you in a word file!

@Paul: now I have it in excel, I can update it for you after the season and forward it to you in a word file!

i do not get it: is your file correct or are those 88 or so games missing?

Something is wrong as regarding my stat the current file has the right W/L-numbers for the 7 seasons i played (63W/34L/1T) BUT it says "6yrs" instead of "7yrs"

btw: i am now 75/36/1 in reg season that means i had more than twice as much wins as losses. This makes me #2 among the living GMs behind Marco. Nice stats :-)

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates

we are missing 88 regular games and 2 play off games. my file is a copy of the gm stats on the website!

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Mario ADK on November 05, 2005, 09:20:19 AM
Your idea of the missing GM just CAN´t be the answer as you said that there are 88 less losses than wins. This guy just could NOT have lost 88 times... All the stats (W/L-percentages) are WRONG if 88 losses are not counted....

i think the file is not worth a penny......

All i can say is that my stat is correct, provided the yearcount is at 7 instead of 6....

I agree it is funny that we miss 88 losses but in total we miss 84 games  ???

Note: season 14 is your 7th season, till season 13 you only played 6 season, so that is correct ::)

I think is a bit harsh saying its not 'worth a penny' !

Tracking that sort of thing from 9 years ago is tough, yes it might not be 100% but it gives us a good idea

On that list its a year behind so if you are in your 7th season in Season 14 then on the genman.htm it will say 6 as in 6 complete years.  I only update it after every season so then it will become a '7'

I'm confused how long you have been with us, you were with us for 5 years then you suddenly left.  Bruce Henderson then took over and won it all in Season 6 with basically your old team.  He didnt do much and got bored so left.

You then re-joined at the beginning of Season 12.  You can see at the bottom of this file is when the big Ohio/Austria swap happened ( http://www.fwl.org.uk/trades12.htm )

SO you've been a GM for season 12, 13 and 14.  So add your 5 years originally and at the end of this season you will have been a GM for 8 seasons.

On genman.htm it says '6' when it should be 7.  Take your regular season games, 63-1-34, add those altogether and divde by 14 (as in regular season) and its 7.  And after season 14 it will be 8

I'll amend genman.htm to 7 but to me it looks correct

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Paul-London on November 05, 2005, 10:57:02 AM
If someones won 30 out of 100 games then obviously i divide 100/30 to get the percentage

If someone has won 28 games, tied 4 and lost 96 then out of 128 games i'm unsure what to divide by !  Eg 28/128 (what about the 4 drawn games) so the final figures for people with drawn games are a bit hit/miss

But on the whole that genman.htm is pretty reliable and i wouldnt say its a waste

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Niki on November 05, 2005, 12:10:41 PM
I already emailed mario, the list I copies from fwl website had an error: In my sheet showed that Andrew had only 11 losses instead of 110 (oops) now we have 15 games to many, I already noticed that all Barcelona GM's have 2 games to much (Think those two happend the moment Munro resigned and Stuart was appointed as GM since Stuart has already 28 games on his name but was named during the season)

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Paul-London on November 05, 2005, 01:43:56 PM
Well i think Jonathan was very quiet that season so after about game 2 or something i asked him if he wanted to carry on, he didnt have time so i got Stuart in so perhaps Stuart should have -2 losses taken off his record and that put onto Jonathans instead

The list isnt that bad though considering how old it is.  I think for the big names still active its very reliable

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Niki on November 05, 2005, 02:16:34 PM
13 seasons is 182 games, barcelona had 3 gm's:

C. Longmuir 1 5 0 9 = 13 games
J. Munro 11 78 0 65 = 143 games
S. Mackie 2 10 0 18 = 28 games

Total = 184 games.

That are 2 games to much, I know it went wrong with the change between Munro and Stuart but I remember it was during the season, but was it after 2 games? I have in mind after 6 games or was that the first win of Barca that season  ::)

so it will be:

C. Longmuir 1 5 0 9 = 13 games
J. Munro 11 78 0 65 = 143 games
S. Mackie 2 10 0 16 = 26 games

Total = 182 games

I agree, 99% of the record is ok, I will look if I can solve the error of the extra 15 (now 13) games and will keep it up to date in excel and provide you with it when you need/want it

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Mario ADK on November 05, 2005, 02:29:59 PM
ok, ok, ok...

my word was referring to 88 missing games (losses) which defenitely would have destroyed any meaning of the file BUT with just 13 games to be sought after i agree it is a great source and a lot of fun to read and it is a lot of fun standing on top of this list. thanks Niki for your Miss-Marple-Style work.....

But plaese do not forget to correct the Jonathan/Stuart-mismatch; and David Bridson is still an capital letters....

yep, it is my 8th season and my stats after season 7 are correct, just the "6yrs" is wrong.....

Btw:
we have 14 seaqson now: wouldn´t it be time to rise the barrier from "16 wins" up to someing like "32 wins"?
i would prefer something like that becaus a GM who has played every game so far would have had the potential of having 14*14=196 wins plus playoffs.
We should raise that margin i think? Paul?

thanks Niki for your Miss-Marple-Style work.....

sorry sorry sorry sorry  :'(

I just used the file from fwl website but the moment I converted it to excel the last number of Andrew's number of losses was lost  ???

BTW: I updated the file till season 14 and adjsuted Stuarts record

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Paul-London on November 05, 2005, 03:05:24 PM
I'll raise it to 25 or more wins as then that would get rid of GM's such as Steve Dalgleish who obviously only did a few seasons then retired so his records are never going to change.

Brian Speight would still be on the main list but he did coach nearly 60 games.  Also Jeff Kramer would go out of the list but i think we should keep someone like Ton Vlaming on it who considering he had a weak Admirals team did a great job

When i remember i'll raise it to 25 wins .  To get to 25 wins most people would have GM'ed at least 40-50 games which i think is enough to put them on the top list not the bottom

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Mario ADK on November 05, 2005, 03:11:44 PM
yep, but only one more season....

25 is fine, next season we can make 30 so those 2 would stay atop of the line.....

at 25 the following would drop:
Lorne Callaghan
Jeff Kramer
Steve Dalgleish

That is fair.

"45" will be a gloriuos day with the current #1 Christian Bender "disappearing" and me hopefully at #2 behind Marco....

no as this would not fit to the "the best should be on top"-though.

let us leave it to what it is right now but change it to 25 an next season to 30. I agree with Paul

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Niki on November 05, 2005, 03:27:57 PM
okay, it was just an idea based on more or less the regular number of season that someone has been a gm.

I found another 5 extra games, SA, three gm's, 14 seasons = 196 games but

S. Dalgleish 2 19 1 13
N. Henderson 5 39 0 31
Jason Hink 7 53 0 45

total 201 games

Now I need the help of Paul!

I think the error is with the Dalgleish record he has only been 2 seasons gm (=28 games) but his record shows 33 games. Since SA only had 1 draw in its history I think he was GM in season 1 and 2 the records of season 1 was 11-0-3 and season 2: 6-1-7

so it should be:
S. Dalgleish 2 17 1 10
N. Henderson 5 39 0 31
Jason Hink 7 53 0 45

total 196 games

do you agree paul?

other possibility is that he was also GM of SA in the first 5 games of season 3 in that case the record of Henderson has to be adjusted!

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates

and another error is with paris, three GM's:

Andrew Batteye 14(!!!) 63 2 117
M. Campbell 2 (!) 3 0 7
F. Loret 2 2 0 12

Total 206 (should be 196)

Total paris record is 66-2-128

maybe andrew can remember when he left and joined the league exactley (hope hope) then we have a diff of only 2 8)

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Mario ADK on November 06, 2005, 03:29:30 AM
right now you have a count of 18(!) instead of 14... obviously it should be
Loret 1 season (14 games)
Campell 1 season
Battye 12 season

plus i assume the diff of 10 games comes from a doublecount of Campell/Battye and that those games would therefore have to be deducted from Andrews records so you would have 196 games:

Loret 2-0-12
Campell 3-0-7
Battye (obviously took over frem Campell during season #2 after week 10: 60-2-110)
==> Andrew, do you know when you EXCATLY joined the league?

so paris total of 65-2-129.... Niki how come you say it is 66-2-128?

can you check season 1 and the record of first 10 games of season 2 - i got my baby boy with me and it is a little stressful right no.... :-)

but stop: Paris´ record was 3-11 in season one and 4-10 in season two....

Campell: 3-7 in season one ==> Loret
Loret: 0-4 in season one and 2-8 in season two? ==> Battye
Battye 2-2 in season three plus all the other games?

ist that correct then? no it is not as Paris did not start 3-7 in season one but 2-8..... DAMN!

Anyway: We should not mind the records of Loret and Campell as they had just a couple of games. The only important thing is: WHEN EXACTLY did Andrew join?

That should solve all the problems.....

Right - he goes - the official history. I was GM of Paris at the start of the FWL - I left midway through season 2 and Michael Campbell took over.

Sometime during season 3, Fabian Loret took over from Michael. Then in season 4, I rejoined as co-GM with Fabian. We were co-GM through season 4 and the start of season 5, when Fabian resigned and I took sole charge again.

I've successully got my "all time head-to-head results" PHP script working on the new computer and so will generate an updated file tonight. I'll post it on my webserver and provide a link via the forum.
Apologies for the delay - a couple of problems have arisen. Firstly, there is a bug in the PHP script - it relies on there being a space between each result in the "sched.html" files. This is OK most of the time, but if the two teams with the longest names (Raleigh-Durham and San Antonio) play each other, both score over 9 points, and the game goes to overtime, then the space is not shown. This chain of events happened in Season 13 and so one result got missed.

The other problem is I've got a new computer and all the settings for my FTP program are on the old one. I can't remember the password for my webserver, so can't upload any files. I've asked for the password to be reset, so the results should be available soon.

I've also transferred all the results into a MySQL database which may end up on the webserver. I can then write some little PHP pages to pull results out of the database - but don't hold your breath. This could take a while.

Niki how come you say it is 66-2-128?

easy use excel but all season records in a file and let excel do the work

1 3-11
2 4-10
3 2-10
4 6-8
5 7-6-1
6 7-7
7 2-12
8 5-9
9 4-9-1
10 6-8
11 3-11
12 4-10
13 6-8
14 7-7

total 66-128-2

but looking at the history, I think we have to reduce the numbers from Andrew's records.

Another reason for Jason to stay: with 4 more wins, he can be the 3rd GM with a 100 or more regular season vics

Title: EFC reigns over AFC!
Post by: Mario ADK on November 16, 2005, 03:31:11 AM
?

Cmon, David please stop pretending that the AFC is superior to the EFC. The EFC is 7-6 all time in FWL-Bowls and will be 8-6 after this weeks bowl.

Playoffteams vs. other conference in season#14:
AFC total: 5-4
NY: 2-0
Ohio: 1-1
San Antonio: 1-1
Montreal: 1-2(!)

EFC total: 8-2
Frankfurt: 3-0
Austria: 2-0
Amsterdam: 2-1
London: 1-1

AFC Playoff-teams vs. EFC playoff-teams in season #14:
AFC total: 1-4
NY: no game
Ohio: 1-1
San Antonio: 0-1
Montreal: 0-2(!)

EFC total: 4-1
Frankfurt: 2-0
Austria: 1-0
Amsterdam: 1-0
London: 0-1

EFC-top-teams are totally dominating over the AFC-top-teams. And as you can see by the head-to-head comparison it is NOT a question of strengh of schedule.

You better think twice, hey? Given your record against the EFC-teams your saying is quite strange....

But i admit AFC was the stronger Conference when i returned (i cannot judge my "off-seasons" as i did not follow FWL that much) - but things have changed due to the rise of Amsterdam, London and - of course - Austria.

Good Job, EFC-GMs! We are back!

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Niki on November 16, 2005, 06:19:52 AM
When I joined the league in season 9, I think the EFC (must say the German teams) dominated the league, the last past years the AFC (San Antonio, Montreal and Sacremento) dominated the year but I think the last two years both are from the same.

Well a fact is that in the beginning of the FWL some GM's made a real superior teams partly due to the fact of miss management of other GM's. If you now look many teams that are not in the PO could have been with some more luck and other teams could not have made it the other way around. Looking at the GM records, most of the GM's have a record around the .500 what is a good sign

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Paul-London on November 16, 2005, 06:32:40 AM
I like the way its been in the FWL

For years in the NFL the NFC was the better conference, then it switched to the AFC

In the FWL the EFC was the better conference to begin with, but with the rise of Montreal, then SA, then Sac and NY the AFC took the crown.  At the moment i think its a pretty close thing, the AFC still is very tough with 4 teams with winning records, the EFC had 4 teams also with winning records.

Last year the AFC had 4 teams with winning records, no teams with double digit wins, in the EFC there were just 3 teams with winning records but 2 with double digit wins

I think the EFC is slowly catching up with the AFC

For me one of the best teams of all time were the Montreal Machine of Season 12.  Their division had a 12-2 team, a 10-4 team also.  One of the toughest divisions of all time

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates

yep i agree. MON, SAN and SAC where incredibly strong when i came back and in fact the first two still are but SAC faded. Nevertheless AFCs top three MON, SAN and NY are a huge force.

But as you said: EFC was catching up and this season stats even say that AFC needs to catch up a little ;-)

You can always have a discussion about "best ever". But looking back i think my ADK-team in my final season (#5) was the best team ever in a single season even with a "poor" record of "just" 11-3 and even if (once again) Frankfurt was kicking us out in the POs.

Austria was leading in virtually ALL statistical categories:
#1 W/L record
#1 in passing
#1 in passing against
#1 in rushing
#1 in rushing against
#1 in punt returns against
#1 in kickoff-returns
#1 in kickoff-returns against
#2 in first downs (#1 in 3rd down conversions, #2 in 4th down conversions)
#1 in first downs opponents
#1 in scoring
#1 in scoring against
#2 in total yards (#2 in rushing, #1 in passing)
#1 in total yards against (#1 passing, #1 rushing)
#2 in time of possetion

The nice thing about it was that no ADK-players (exception: QB) led any statistical category so that was total team-effort.

Pity i did not win the Bowl or not even the EFC. But hey, that is how POs go. But i think my team deserved it - but i can remember that i was VERY VERY upset back then  :D

I decided to leave after the loss against Frankfurt as i had nothing left to achieve and other things took over in my life. What i really did NOT like is that another GM grabbed my team and won the Bowl the season after. Quite unfair. But so be it.

But this season #5 and this ADK-team is worthwile to remember. At least i will always remember it and if i do a little thinking i guess i can still memorize each and every starter on both sides of the ball.

My dream-team.

I think its too bad that the program does not allow the interconference matches to rotate thru both divisions.

But so we will never have the possibility to see lets say Austria against Montreal (except in the Bowl).

I never played Ohio in a regular season game and NY, Orlando only once. But 9 times I played Raleigh.

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates

that´s not quite correct: Austria already played against Montreal. But i admit that was back in season #1.

But given history, i should play both NY and Ohio in season #15 - duh.... that is going to be very, very tough.....

Well we went from one extreme to the other, Bruce Henderson took over Austria, didnt have to do much and they won it all that year.  Then we had David Bridson who tore the team apart and was the opposite.

Its a pity you left when you did as Austria would have reigned supreme for quite a while !

When you look back at the old Austria rosters they were brilliant and had a ton of depth, same with some of the early Montrael rosters now, if you look at those a lot of backups/starters now are playing well for other teams.

Going to be interesting to see what happens when Bishop/Wuerrfel both have their skills declining, but then again it hasnt happened much to Pat Barnes.

David is a genius-GM who is excellent in keeping hs team to a very high level.... and he has got his future QB1 in Ragone already. But Ragone is young, needs some time AND David could get severe problems if Ragone gets injured.....

I am quite surprised that Jason did not sign or trade for a future-star-QB as both his QBs might have reduced skills. Van Dyke still needs time to gel. I expect San Antonio to be less dominating next season as there are some key-players on the edge of retirment or reduced skills....

BTW:
Frankfurt will win this Bowl but faces severe aging-problems next season. I do not see that with NY that much. Montreal has only "mild" problems as well. Could be a NY/AUS - domination in the two conferences? We will see.....

Title: Re: alltime.htm and updates
Post by: Paul-London on November 16, 2005, 09:00:45 AM
Well from what i've seen of Jason.H hes very loyal to his players. In another league his starting QB is also Michael Bishop !

I think its good again the mix of people we have, Andreas over at Berlin has been starting Barnes forever which i love.  Other GM's would instantly get rid of him and sit him on the bench for 2 seasons and then leave him on the FA list.  Each to their own

But after what Barnes has done i'm glad hes still playing and doing well.  I get sad when greats such as Thabiti Davis have 1000 yard seasons after 1000 yard seasons and then what did he have this year ?  Just 4 catches or so, shame.  Same with Chad Dukes, 2nd leading rusher of all time , looks like hes consigned to a backup forever now.

For me personally i'll be starting my favourite players till they retire, eg DE Mark Word/Earl Riley/Kinnon Tatum and Mark Brown.  Even if i have some better players these old famous vets will keep playing.

I think San Antonio are okay, Bishop next year will be in his 8th season and many other teams have shown you that a veteran QB can still do well.  In 2 seasons or so van Dyke might be challenging for the starting role.

I think Davids quite loyal as well as his veterans (Fields/Akers) were starting in their last seasons.  Danny Wuerrfel is the leagues 'Joe Montana/Tom Brady' so i think David will probably carry on starting him for a while.

I think some people are too hasty with some decisions, look at Curt Anes, after his first season in Austria you could have easily benched him forever but he bounced back.  Kerry Collins of the Raiders had his first real bad game this week, my Raiders friend wants him benched for the rest of the season !  Just because of one lousy game !

Same with players, look at some QB's and the season they had and sometimes they had a bad year but often can bounce back.  I'm glad i carried on starting Todd Bouman, he did well this year despite no rushing attack for most of the year.

I think Austria this year were the first ever 12-2 team to start 3 different QB's !  Unless it was because of injury i wouldnt mess with a winning team.

I see he has got 3(!) 2nd rounders (1 medium, 2 late). He should do well in aquiring some good stuff.

I opted for going for the "big fish" instead which i also did last season. Was a risky move but it paid off....

Different approach. We will see..... Looking forward for the draft already.

The list of names for the draft is created, we're just adding skills to the players at the moment.

Remember from Friday you will be able to trade again, i'm away next week so i'll run retirements when i'm back on Monday 27th Nov but i'll send out an email about that.

After retirements of course its the draft so i want to get that sorted before Xmas and then Season 15 will kickoff mid-late Dec i would say

Paul,
my Shawn Mayer decided to change his name to Shaunte Mayers as he was sick and tired to be compared to this lousy Paris´player....

Regarding trade: sorry to say but i won´t do much trading in offseason and next season as i tried to do whatever i could to get more better players but the prices where astronomical...... Should be a quiet trading-season for me as my team is more or less set....
Might go for an OL and a LB4, but i do not see further need. And i only got little left to give away as i traded away many many players.......

Yeah i feel bad as i havent changed these duplicate player for ages, David always sends me a list but i'm afraid i've been too lazy to change any !

For duplicate names i would prefer using an NFLE name instead of a made up players name but we'll sort that out after the FWL Bowl.  Only problem is of course changing their name will then confuse records etc.

Perhaps like Mario says rename them as a different first name for now
