Title: Surge cut 2 players Post by: Paul-London on November 18, 2005, 04:11:51 AM In order for HB BJ Askew and rookie CB BJ Tucker to be back on the active list the Sacramento Surge this week released two players.
HB Mike Reed is a 9th year veteran who came over from Amsterdam in a trade. Reed couldnt get settled down in Sacramento and struggled rushing for just 119 yards at a 2.9 average and lost the starting job. Another Admiral obtained in a trade who was cut was TE Todd Winston. Winston the first TE ever to have 1000 yards receiving again like Reed struggled in Sacramento after coming to the team during the season. Winston never managed to learn the playbook in time and finished the season on the bench after making just 10 catches for 117 yards. "We are sad to cut these two quality veterans, I hope they stand a chance of making someone elses roster. Reed is a former 1000 yard rusher and Winston just two seasons ago had over 1000 yards. We think if both players joined a team before training camp they will contribute well but for the moment we have had to make these tough cuts. If we free up a roster space before the retirements are announced we may well sign one of these players back if no one else does." said Surge GM Johns. Just two seasons ago TE Todd Winston was on top of the world, he became the first ever TE to have over 1000 yards (67 catches for 1026 yards and 4 td's), surprisingly he wasnt named All-FWL but he had a great year. He was surprisingly benched by Amsterdam after that huge year and eventually traded to Sacramento, things didnt work out with the Surge and he was on the bench for the second half of S14. |
