Title: Possible retirements ?
Post by: Paul-London on April 21, 2006, 07:56:27 AM
Who knows what players will retire at the end of the year but we'll have a go at predicting some !

QB Jon Denton - Orlando

Denton has great skills, can still play very well and has taken his team to two FWL Bowls winning one.  However the last few years Denton has been in and out more times than an extra in a porn film.  Now stuck at QB3 and inactive Denton might retire.

P Jeff Suave - Orlando

Benched late this season despite being the better punter if Suave isnt given the starting role back the 10 year pro might retire rather than come back for an 11th season.

LB Stefan Wesche - Birmingham

Great career with Berlin then suddenly disguarded, hardly played this year and had just 2 tackles.  Looks like he probably will retire.

TE Todd Winston - Sacramento

Hardly played since his amazing 1000 yard season with Amsterdam, getting the start in Week 14 helped but another season on the bench might be too much for Winston.

DE Jim Hoffman - Berlin

Berlin love playing veteran offensive stars but not on defense, Hoffman the 3rd leading sacker of all time can still play but stuck at DE3 might not be his idea of fun next season.

LB Schadd Freeman - Mexico

Aztecs legend, joined the team late in the year as a FA, been inactive though so probably will retire.

HB Joe Aska - Frankfurt

Probably wont retire but after being benched and falling to HB2 Aska will want out and may possibly retire if he doesnt move.

QB Pat Barnes - Berlin

Only a handful of players have played 14 seasons in the FWL, will Barnes retire after his severe injury ?  Nice way to go out in his final game throwing 2 touchdowns despite being practically on crutches.

HB Michael Black - Berlin

Never had a 12th year pro starting at HB1, Black had a terrible season yet again and has slowed right down, showed what he can do catching passes though with an 83 yard touchdown reception.  Perhaps its not Black and its his offensive line ?

WR Vance Blundin - Berlin

Started all year and would be a shame if he retired, put up another great season, only two touchdowns but still had a lot of big games.

TE Christopher Fear - Berlin

Has the most receptions of any TE in history, his hands look terrible on paper but Fear still can make a lot of catches.

LB James Francis - Rhein

Former great, shame hes now just a LB6 for Rhein.  Still has great 81 SP so its a shock no one has traded for him as he could start for many teams out there.  Might retire if hes at LB6 again

LB Dusty Pearce - Amsterdam

Had some great years for the Admirals but now just a backup, skills have badly gone downhill.  Should retire.

QB Todd Bouman - London

Looks like Bouman for the first time in many years will be a backup next season, will he want to stay as a backup ?  Still has great skills and plays well but after a 5-9 season London may go for youth.

LB Martin Janson - London

Had many great years with Orlando then was dumped after last season, the result ?  Orlando fell to their worst record ever due to losing quality veterans like Janson.  Hardly played in London and will probably retire.

S Israel Byrd - London

All those years of 90+ tackles in Paris have taken a toll on Byrd, his skills have declined dramatically and he hardly played in London.

LB Mike Scroggins - Scotland

Former great with Sacramento and had some good years with the Claymores, LB5 last year and hardly touched the field.  Still has good skills but unless he moves he probably will retire.

QB Dameyune Craig - Barcelona

The starting job looks like its Craigs for next season.  Had a decent season but a late season slump looked bad.  Craig enters his 12th year and the Dragons have no heir apparent after trading Hutchinson.  Look for Barcelona to perhaps make a blockbuster trade for a young starting QB.  If thats the case Craig may be gone.

QB Alli Abrew - Ohio

Former Ohio starter has enjoyed success with London (14 td's 3 ints just 2 seasons back) and Austria last year when he started one game for the DarkKnights and threw 3 td's.  Didnt play this year and held a clipboard.

QB Matt Lytle - Paris

Had a great year with 9 td's and 0 ints before moving to Paris but never got a look in for the Paris job.  Wants to start and despite being in his 10th season next year can still play and those fumbling problems seemed to have gone away.

LB Matt Finkes - Paris

Former Rhein Fire great who had some very good seasons in the past, has 607 tackles (41st all time) and played in FWL Bowl VII for Rhein.  Had a great comeback year just one year ago with Paris with 73 tackles and 7 sacks but the veteran was ignored by the new Paris GM and was benched and made just 39 tackles.  With his benching Finkes may prefer to retire.
