Title: Around the League Post by: Paul-London on September 22, 2006, 04:41:00 AM RALEIGH-DURHAM
The Skyhawks have looked great this season in all areas, despite two losses recently the Skyhawks still played well in both games and many experts predict they will make the playoffs for sure and with QB Aaron Rodgers at the helm they should do well for many years. One problem is FB Kelvin Eafon who has fumbled 4 times already this year. PARIS The Musketeers may be winless but the team have talent, but the offensive line have been disasterous, QB Ryan Dinwiddie has been sacked 42 times in just 6 games and the line could break the FWL record for most sacks allowed. Dinwiddie has still played well but HB Robert Edwards has found it hard to find any space to run. NEW YORK Another team who are struggling because of a poor offensive line, rookie GM Jon Houston has done a good job but needs to fix that line or swap some players around, DeMario Brown at HB and Phil Stambaugh have both struggled this year. Has the line simply got old ? The lines starting the same five players as last year but is not getting the job done. AUSTRIA At one stage it seemed BJ Symons may keep the job but after a tie with London which upset GM Mario Kreiner the job is Curt Anes for the rest of the season. Anes looked a bit rusty last week but last years FWL Bowl MVP should back to 100% this week for sure. MONTREAL Whats happening with Montreal ? Is it a case of the team simply getting old ? On defense normally a Machine strength they allowed a 200 yard rusher in Surge HB BJ Askew and then were hammered by the Riders offense this week. GM David Harwood has a tough job on his hands specially what to do with oft-injured RB Corey Walker. When healthy Walker is a great back but just cant seem to stay healthy. BERLIN What a mess in Berlin, Week 6 of the season and so far 3 different starting QB's. Nate Hybl the former 1st round pick who was benched earlier in the season wants out of Berlin, "I was blamed for the poor start but we've had no rushing attack" said Hybl. Hybl may have a point, Berlin are last in the league in running the ball and Avon Cobourne and Omar Bacon have both struggled badly. LONDON Rookie Drew Henson has been so far brilliant for the Monarchs and has played well, the d-line have had their problems, the huge changes at the start of the season backfired and veteran DE Mark Word who is chasing the league sack record is looking very rusty after being out of place at DT earlier this season. LB Kinnon Tatum is now the alll time leading tackler but may lose playing time to some impressive young Monarch LB's, specially John Leake who has been mentioned in several trade discussions with various teams. GM OF THE YEAR ? Either Ronnie Munro of Scotland, Mark Munro of Raleigh or Stuart Mackie of Barcelona, Raleigh are developing a very strong squad and could do some serious damage in the playoffs in the near future. Scotland are 6-0 but face a tough Austria side away but the Claymores have a very good balanced squad, Barcelona are the complete surprise, they were 4-5 last year however but lost their final 5 games, but this year they are 4-2 and veteran QB Dameyune Craig is playing very very well and the trade for Jamal Robertson has helped the team a ton. ANGOY NEEDS 14 POINTS Barcelona kicker Jesus Angoy will break the all time scoring record some point in the next few games, Angoy who was nearly cut by Barcelona last season has played very well this year nailing some late important FG's to win games. Frankfurt kicker Erik Kastle who is a year younger will beat Angoys record at some point but Angoy can claim to be the top kicker ever later this season. PEGENAUTE BENCHED Rhein with their terrible record this year are struggling mainly because of a poor rushing attack but Dani Pegenaute, one of the top most consistent QB's the last 4 seasons has been benched and rookie Jared Allen will start for Rhein this weekend. It could be the end of Pegenautes starting career as the 10th year veteran only has a few years left in the FWL, Pegenaute had thrown 4 td's this year and 0 ints but 4 touchdown passes in 6 games isnt good enough and GM Miguel Cuadron has made the switch. HUGE TRADE The Galaxy recently traded for star Birmingham S Lamont Reid. They had to pay a high price and the Fire should use those picks wisely but Reid is a great pickup for the Galaxy who need a big ball hawking safety in the secondary. Birmingham pick up talented CB Ricky Sharpe and several high draft picks. |
