Title: London get off to a great start Post by: Paul-London on March 19, 2007, 07:11:56 AM The Monarchs won their home opener 30-16 against Montreal who were the AFC Champions last year. The game was tied 16-16 in the 4Q but Montreal ran a fake punt on the Monarchs 46 yard line but S Richard Yancey sacked the Montreal punter for a huge play.
After Week 1 the Monarchs offense is ranked 7th and their defense 5th. For London QB Drew Henson had a great game and was very effective, HB Joe Hall struggled with just 38 yards on 15 carries but did catch 10 passes for 68 yards. The new revamped offensive line kept the Montreal defense to just 2 sacks but failed to open up holes for Hall. Newcomer Pete Swanson started and the Monarchs also had a new centre, hopefully in weeks to come the line will gell more. On defense the whole unit played well, veterans Kinnon Tatum and Mark Word had a sack each, new starter Jake Sparks was quiet but did a good job in the middle. DE Eric Powell notched up 2 tackles but the pressure is on Powell to perform and get some sacks. All in all a very impressive Week 1 victory |
