Title: K Jones having a record setting year
Post by: Paul-London on April 10, 2007, 10:37:21 AM
London moved up in the EOS16 draft to select K Tyler Jones who was the first kicker selected that year.  The Monarchs were nervous of losing Jones so packaged up some picks and moved up to get him in the 3rd round, a high position for a kicker.

He started immediately as a rookie but the results werent impressive at all, he finished 18 of 29 (62.1 %) with just a long of 46 and 6/13 from 40-49 yards.  The Monarchs also brought in FA kicker Seth Marler to give Jones competition.

Last offseason there were rumours the Monarchs would go with Marler and trade Jones but in the end Marler was traded to Barcelona and Jones was the kicker for certain this year.  Much like DarkKnights K John Anderson who had a poor rookie season before becoming one of the best in the league, Jones seems to be totally different from the nervous player last year.

With London struggling to move the ball once theyre in opponents territory, Jones has been automatic so far this year.  Hes hit an incredible 14 of 14 FG's to lead the league and is one of only two players to have 10 or more FG's so far this year.  He hasnt tried any 50+ yarders but from 40-49 yards hes 4/4 and the majority of his FG's (30-39 yards) hes 8/8.

Jones looks to be Londons kicker for the next 10+ seasons and has a real crack of going for records when hes further into his career.  A great turnaround by Jones this year considering he nearly lost his job a few months back
