Title: Week 13 Preview
Post by: Paul-London on January 07, 2008, 03:55:56 AM
Montreal at Orlando

Montreal have to win this game, Orlando despite their record can be a tricky team, all their wins have come at home and QB Kliff Kingsbury has improved much more this year.  Montreal and specially QB Danny Wuerffel were shell shocked last week and expected to win against the Riders.  They cant slip up here otherwise San Antonio could perhaps pass them for the final wildcard spot.

New York at Ohio

Ohio have to keep winning to keep their playoff chances secure, they hold a wildcard spot with two weeks left to play and are a game clear of the Riders.  New York looked excellent last week against Orlando but Ohio have to get back to winning ways as they have struggled over the second half of the season.  Payton who has struggled all year might miss this important game with injury.

Sacramento at Birmingham

The Surge were still in the playoff race but defeat last week has practically put them out of the race.  Birmingham can secure the top seed in the AFC with a win here and also perhaps give GM Michel Kremer a chance for GM of the Year as the Fire have been brilliant this season.  Interesting stat of the week - QB Joe Hamilton is 23-3 in his last 26 regular season starts for Amsterdam and Birmingham.  He was 5-1 when he took over for the Admirals late in the S16 season, last year he was 12-2 and this year 6-0 since taking over in Birmingham !

San Antonio at Raleigh-Durham

Yet another close loss for the Skyhawks whereas the Riders bounced back with a great win over Montreal.  San Antonio have to win this game to keep up with the playoff race in the AFC.  Raleigh have nothing to play for but they want to get a win for their home fans, a 0-6 record at home is one of the main reasons for their terrible season.

Amsterdam at Berlin

Amsterdam have the worst finish to their season, playing against Berlin and London, the top two teams in the EFC.  However if they did win both games they would have the top seed in the EFC.  Berlin were dominant against Frankfurt last week and are aiming to win the EFC East for the first time in many years with a win here.  Amsterdam badly need the win as the chasing pack are just behind them, it will be tough to win in Berlin, could be a classic.

Mexico at Rhein

Rhein despite their record can play some great football at times but Mexico are on a roll and win a win here they secure the AFC West.  The Aztecs were superb against Sacramento last week and need more of the same to stay ahead of Montreal and win the division.

Scotland at Austria

This great EFC rivalry features in Week 13 but for what team will Week 13 be unlucky for ?  The Austrian offense has been very poor this year with just 230 points scored (3rd worst in the EFC) but their defense has been superb allowing the second fewest points in the conference.  Scotland badly need a win here as whoever loses could be out of the playoff race with just one more week remaining after this clash.  Do or die for both teams.  Austria gets the win ats they are at home.  Austria lost their starting HB Carl McCullough to a season ending injury but McCullough who has been average all year might have been benched anyway. In his place Jermaine Allen Jnr, a very talented HB finally got some playing time and looked very good with 72 yards rushing.

London at Paris

London wont take their foot off the pedal as they want the top seed in the EFC, they face Paris who are at home and are excellent at 5-1 whilst playing games in Paris.  Paris have won 3 straight and one more win would give them the most wins in franchise history in one season.  They need a win to keep up in the playoff race and this is their chance at home.  Could be a tough game.

Frankfurt at Barcelona

The Dragons are in freefall, the players and management seemed to haven given up, they had a 10 point lead against Paris but threw that away.  They have a chance here as Frankfurt who were still reeling after their loss against Austria played a terrible game against Berlin as you could tell their heads just werent in it.  The Dragons could possibly cause an upset but Frankfurt have their pride.
