Title: New York announce their GM
Post by: Paul-London on February 15, 2008, 03:57:03 AM
Jon Houston left a good legacy in New York, 5 straight playoff years , two AFC Championship games but then last year the wheels fell apart.  A controversial decision to bench his All-FWL QB Phil Stambaugh and give young former 1st round pick Jason Campbell the start backfired as NY went 4-10.  There is a lot of talent on the team, injuries killed their rushing attack last year and there is a lot of talent defensively.  HB DeMario Brown finally came back late last year full strength (after an injury) and looked back to his best.

Some fans werent happy when it was announced that former Barcelona Dragons GM Philip Schofield would take over the team.  Schofield had a very tough challenge in Barcelona, the team had 5 consecutive losing seasons but things got worse last year as Barcelona became just the 4th team all time to go winless, 0-14.  Near the end of the season things were terrible as they lost in 3 consecutive weeks by the scoreline of 48-13, 47-10, 42-17 in a depressing season for Dragons fans.  Defense is obviously the problem in Barcelona, some of their poor LB's from last year were so embarassed they retired as the defense allowed a huge 2002 yards in 14 games last year.

The team only have 3 LB's left on the roster and most of their draft picks traded away.  They do have potential on offense with QB Tony Romo, WR Damon Savage, HB Jamal Robertson and T Kareem Marshall but a very slow secondary as well makes their defense even worse.

A spokesman for New York welcomed the arrival of Phil Schofield.  "He had a tough task in Barcelona, i think that team needs a few years to really get back on its feet, last year he weeded out some of the bad players on the team and it started laying a foundation down.  With New York we feel we have a lot of talent already, injuries killed us last year but we have the talent to bounce back".  Schofield will be under pressure from the start as NY fans are famously impatient and after the success of the NFL's New York Giants, the Knights fans want similar success.

Looking at the stats the offense ranked just 13th last year and they allowed the largest number of sacks in the league, Campbells low intelligence made him hold the ball too long and he was sacked a huge amount in the FWL despite a good line.  New Yorks defense wasnt bad finishing 9th last year, star DE Demoine Adams was lost for the season and had just 8 tackles after racking up 70+ sacks in his career.

Who will start at QB ?  Jason Campbell didnt do a shocking job but seems to hang onto the ball too long and gets sacked, Phil Stambaugh the veteran backup was All-FWL the year before and 2 of the last 3 years.  He was FWL MVP in Season 15 and led the league in passing yardage in Season 17 and had a 98.3 rating before being benched.  Campbell last year was ranked overall in the league with just a 93.4 rating and was the most sacked QB in the league by far.

New York, New York -  A broad smile graced the face of the New York General Manager Phil Schofield.  He is pleased for the first time.  He was excited in Barcelona, but after getting no support from the staff and players, Schofield's smile faded.  He was blasted by the media with questions about the future of Barcelona.  Schofield paused and looked at the logo for the Knights hanging behind him.  "I am 100% Knight."  The new GM of Barcelona can answer those questions for you.

Schofield said that he was able to make some great changes and wishes Tony and the crew there the best of luck in the upcoming season.  "Don't get in the Knights way, though."  In a bold move Schofield announced that QB Phil Stambaugh is the starting quarterback.  "Phil led this team for many years, he is a proven winner.  He has the ball."  Schofield told the media that HB Demario Brown will stand tall again in the backfield for the Knights.  Demoine Adams will see the starting line up again.  "I am looking forward to the draft and the upcoming season."  I am looking forward to my first FWL win as a GM.

The topic that made Schofield smile the most was the Ohio Glory.  "I am looking forward to meeting my brother Gary (Ohio Glory GM) this season.  No promises of wins or losses, it will just be fun to see him there.  That is exciting for me.  Barcelona was far away"

You may be 100% Knights but you may need to change your name from Philip - Barcelona to Philip - NY !

The Week 6 clash away in Barcelona might be a good one to watch !
