Title: Monarchs set for camp
Post by: Paul-London on March 06, 2008, 12:34:10 PM
After some hectic trading just before the draft with many players leaving the Monarchs and some newcomers arriving, London are now all ready for training camp which should provide some huge battles.

WR - Rookie WR Jahkeen Gilmore might win the WR4 spot but Nathan Black and Aaron Hosack have been brought along slowly in London and now entering their second training camp the Monarchs staff hope one of them will develop into a starter.

O-Line - Full of veterans, the Monarchs staff are hoping they will all improve slightly even in their latter years.

D-Line - Important draft for DE Eric Powell, hes scheduled as a starter but when given the chance a few years back he flopped.  As a backup last year he looked excellent but can Powell progress to full time starter.  DT Melila Purcell is another one under pressure, a 1st round pick a year ago he hardly played last year but now has been thrusted into the starting position with the surprise trade of Nick Burley.  Purcell needs to improve his speed and play well to pay back some of the 24 mill dollar contract he signed as a rookie last year.  Purcell didnt have a single tackle as a rookie 1st rounder !  He was their ONLY draft pick that year and was selected 7th overall.

LB - Probably the biggest area on the team which needs growth.  John Leake and Bobby Brooks are excellent but then theres a huge drop down to rookie Anthony Trucks and young Jamal Brooks and Derek Curry who were both waiver wire pickups last year as cut rookies from Austria.

London feel happy with some of their trades recently and a lot of older veterans have been traded but there is also a lot of young players which have to improve for London to be successful.
