Title: Around the league Post by: Paul-London on March 17, 2008, 10:45:05 AM BIRMINGHAM
When he was last knocked out of a game QB Joe Hamilton came back in and wasnt 100% and whilst woozy threw 2 crucial interceptions late on against Montreal in the FWL Bowl. This week he came back after a late hit when he was shaken up but played well leading his team to a victory over Orlando. ORLANDO Might have been a quiet game for WR Travis Anglin, their big profile signing this offseason but it made the job easier for Jamie Deese as the opposing teams best CB was covering Anglin. Deese had a career high 8 catches for 124 yards. NEW YORK Nearly 400 yards offense, 24 first downs yet just 9 points ? Gerald Riggs Jnr who looks All-Pro in the offseason continued his form of playing poorly in the regular season. Riggs had just 10 carries for 37 yards with one run for 35 ! So the other 9 carries were for 2 yards ! However he showed his talent receiving with 8 catches for 100 yards. New York might have gone back to their old QB which worked, got a new TE, WR, starting HB but the offensive line still has its problems. Last year Jason Campbell was sacked the most times in the league, looks like it wasnt Campbells fault for holding onto the ball but the o-line. RALEIGH-DURHAM 19 carries for 181 yards and 2 td's and another 58 yards receiving for nearly 240 combined yards ! Not bad for an old vet ! Curtis Alexander proves hes still in great form with a huge game and fans are already chanting for Alexander to be the starter next year. Its rumoured Jackie Battle might be given the job next season once Alexander has broken all records. SAN ANTONIO Despite their loss last years rookie RB Deon Anderson looked improved this year with 78 yards rushing and another 101 on 10 catches, great performance despite being on the losing side. MONTREAL HB Ken Simonton is on his 3rd team in the FWL but hes still racking up the yards, Simonton had a great first weeks action with nearly 180 yards combined and hopes to become the 3rd RB to reach 10000 yards rushing, he needs a big year though of around 1300 yards. MEXICO Terrible loss for the Aztecs losing HB Eric McCoo all season long and perhaps for good. The team looked shellshocked after the injury and Maurice Hicks rusty when he came on to start. Look for Hicks to look far improved this week as hes the main man in practice. LONDON TE Dan Curley had a poor first showing for the Monarchs, 2 catches for 21 yards. Even some fans booed after the talented TE signed a huge deal to sign with the Monarchs. Veteran DE Mark Word who has lost a step this offseason still showed he had bags of talent with Londons only 2 sacks of the game. He now has 154 in his career, 47 more than the next active player ! FRANKFURT Former japanese national player WR Yu Nakajima had the best game of his career with 6 catches for 126 yards, look for Nakajima to become the main man in Frankfurt soon. RHEIN Veteran WR Damon Savage had a great opening game with 8 catches for 115 yards but on his 8th catch after making a first down on 3rd down, Savage was hit hard and fumbled. Paris recovered and scored the winning touchdown on 4th down with just seconds left. Savage refused to speak to reporters after the game and was devastated by his mistake. If he hadnt fumbled Rhein would have won the game for sure. BERLIN The run defense disappeared for Berlin this week allowing 239 yards on the ground ! Look for some changes to Berlins defense this week as they played a terrible game and had only one sack. Title: Re: Around the league Post by: Mark-skyhawks on March 17, 2008, 03:13:37 PM When questioned about this weeks result and in specific the performance of HB Alexander and his future at the team GM Munro Jr said..."It was a great result, Curtis(Alexander ,Aaron(Rodgers)and Rikiya (ishida)all played great and earned there roles as captains"...when questioned on the future of HB Alexander he stated "We will take it one game at a time never mind worrying about next season....However if Alexander does decide to return to us as I have previously said as long as Rodgers and Alexander are on the same team they will start together"
