If Ohio lost to Birmingham in Week 13 they would have been out of the playoff race, a year after being in the final against Frankfurt last season.  Facing a 3rd and 6 with 1.31 left trailing 24-21 the Glory surprisingly ran a FB draw, it didnt fool anyone and out came Scrifes to try a 50 yard FG to tie the game.  He had made only 5 of 11 FG's from 40+ yards this season but is a hero amongst Ohio fans after he kicked a late 45 yard FG in the AFC Championship last year to beat Montreal.

After a great year last season Scrifes had an off year this year but the pressure was on for this huge 50 yarder.  He hit it clean down the middle and soon after the Glory defense stopped Birmingham and the game was headed to overtime.  It was another special teams star, young punter Ryan Dutton who made a perfect 61 yard boot to pin Birmingham down on their own 4 yard line.  A few plays later the Fire saw their punt blocked and the game was over as their punter was tackled for a game winning safety.

Ohio still have to win in Week 14 and may need help elsewhere but for one week Mike Scifres was the hero for Ohio with his huge late 50 yard FG.
