London Monarchs GM

WWW
« on: May 02, 2008, 04:16:55 AM »

London Monarchs DE Mark Word is currently in his 13th season, 10 out of his previous 12 seasons ( http://www.fwl.org.uk/alltime.htm#mword) he has reached double digit sacks.  He is the all time sack leader with 158 (33 ahead of the 2nd placed retired player and 46 ahead of the next active DE - Michael Josiah).

Word has been amazing for both the Sacramento Surge and London Monarchs, this year he has 6 sacks in 7 games and hopes again to reach double digit figures.  "People say my skills have declined but I'm still getting the sacks and our defense has still played very well" said Word.

He admits he is nervous about DE Michael Josiah who has 112 sacks halfway through his 9th season.  Still Josiah would need currently 46 sacks over the next 4 and a half seasons to match Words total, Josiah would then be in his 14th season and only tie Mark Words records and would have to average 10 sacks a year.

"When you put it like that yes I'm amazed at how many sacks I have, I admit i want the record forever, if i can have a strong second half of the year and play next year as well I think I should reach 170 sacks".  "I admit next year 'might' be my last but we'll see what happens this year, I might even call it a day after this season (his 13th), you hardly have any defensive players specially on the line starting in their 14th season"
