Thanks to Andrew Battye who suggested a utility to capture the video.

Done the highlights of FWL Bowl XIII, as you know the computer creates 5 highlights and these were the official ones from the final....

http://www.fwl.org.uk/fwlbowl.wmv

Its a 4 meg file, best to go to the main FWL page and do a right click, save as and save the file to your computer.

I might try to use these for 'some' of the highlights for next season.  A 4 meg file for every game i cant really do but what i might do 'if' i have time is to save the best touchdowns of the week, then at the end of the year i can edit and create a video featuring all of the top 10 td's of the season.  The final file might be about 8 meg or so but would be quite cool.  I do some basic video editing myself so i can easily add a start screen and text screens saying what touchdown it was.

BUT the software (Sierra Football Pro) doesnt always manage to create highlights, many times you click on 'highlights' for each game and it either crashes or it just goes back to the original screen with no highlights so its a bit hit and miss.  So dont expect highlights for every week and dont ask for touchdown highlights every week as it takes a while to do and to upload the file.

I think for now the best thing would be a highlights package at the end of next season with a top 10 tds, eg it comes up with a screen saying '#10 Todd Bouman 99 yard scramble' and then it fades to the highlight and so on till the next clip.

Could be good

Nice work! But how does the program chose the highlight plays?

Well thats another strange one !

The computer automatically picks 6 plays from each game, if you played the game yourself you can save any highlights you want to.  But simming a game creates automatically 6 highlights.

Sometimes these highlights are dire, eg in the past theres been a missed FG when it wasnt a missed one with 3 secs left, just an unimportant one.  Other times its been a sack or an interception.

As you can see from the highlights it does show both the touchdowns and the winning OT one.  The other highlights are a blocked FG and a fumble.  When i sim the games i tend to watch the odd highlight (as long as it doesnt crash) but sometimes theyre dire games.  I look at the highlights to do a screen print (F6) so i can use that for the main page you see.

Not sure how the computer decides what plays to do, should normally be touchdowns then any turnovers but you'll see if you sim lots of weeks that the computer as always does some odd choices for 'play of the games'
