Draft order completed?
«
on:
May 09, 2005, 08:22:44 AM »
Q:
Does the power rankings reflect the draft order - apart from the fact that the FWL-Bowl winner always gets the #18 seat?
In other words:
Does Austria get the 8th pick? correct?

The power rankings should not play any part. The draft order should be; FWL bowl winner = last, FWL bowl runner-up = second to last. Everyone else is ranked by won-loss percentage. Strictly speaking, teams with the same won-loss percentage should rotate their picks, but this doesn't happen in FWL.

I thought the way the NFL was the teams with the worst records obviously pick early, teams who win a division pick near the end ?
So for me Austria surely pick 15th if anything or if they win a playoff game they'll pick even later.
I'm sure thats the way we've done it in the FWL for the last 13 seasons, as Austria are a divisional winner they'll pick either 15th,16th,17th or 18th depending on what they do in the playoffs.
I'll see what the computer shows once the playoffs are over but i would say...
1) Sacramento
2) London (tied 1-1 with Scotland, 3-5 div record but 4-8 in conf, Scotland 5-7)
3) Scotland
4) Mexico
5) Raleigh
6) Barcelona
7) Paris
Rhein
9) Ohio
10) Birmingham
11) San Antonio
12) Orlando
13) Amsterdam
14) Berlin
15) Austria
16) Montreal
17) New York
18) Frankfurt
The last 8 places all depend on what happens in the playoffs though, i think the above is correct but we'll wait to see what the computer outputs after the playoffs and if theres any errors on that we'll get them changed.

nonsense, Paul, there are 7 or 8 teams with a better record than ADKs, so there is definitely no way i should be ranked 15th.
i should be ranked 10th/11th (win-lost percentage regular season) or 8th (power-ranking)..... i would be very surprised if POs are a matter here (FWL-Bowl of course is....)
but let the pc decide......

I'm confused on this one as i thought the later picks in a round are because of divisional winners and wildcard teams etc. So a 8-8 divisional winner will pick after a 11-5 wildcard team.
FORGET the power ranking as thats something slightly different, thats wins on your schedule against how tough/easy it is. If i'm 2-12 but if i bet two 13-1 teams then i'll be rating higher than a 4-10 team who beat 4 easy teams.
I just thought the NFL was the same, draft positions in the playoffs arent finalised until the playoffs are over so in that way i thought the last 8 teams always pick last but we'll see
The lowest you will draft is 11th but it all depends on how far you get in the playoffs. The last 4 in a round are the teams who meet in the FWL Bowl and then the losing teams in the Championship games.
If you win your first playoff game you'll then be at a minimum picking 15th in Round 1. If you win FWL Bowl then its 18th, runner up 17th and then like i say the two losing teams in the Championship games 15th and 16th depending on your record.
Basically we'll wait for the computer and if theres anything glaringly wrong we'll change it but it normally gets it right

Yes, playoff teams have always definitely picked in the last 8 slots, that's been consistent. That's the "price" for having a chance to compete for the league title.

Right, I've checked my NFL Book, and this is how the NFL does it....
Non-playoff teams always pick before playoff teams.
The Super Bowl winner picks last (32nd)
The Super Bowl Runner-Up picks second-to-last (31st)
The losers of the NFC and AFC championship games pick 30th and 29th
The losers of the divisional playoffs pick 28th, 27th, 26th and 25th
The losers of the wildcard games pick 24th 23rd 22nd and 21st
Within each level, the order is decided by Won-Loss-Tied percentage in the regular season. If any teams are tied, them the Strength of Schedule is used - this is the Won-Loss-Tied percentage of the teams that each team played against in the regular season. The team with the better record picks before one with a worse record. Whether a team has won a division or not makes no difference.
For all other teams, the order is decided by Won-Loss-Tied percentage in the regular season. If any teams are tied, them the Strength of Schedule is used.

Yep thats what i had originally. As i said the last 8 places will change depending on the playoffs but either way Mario might pick 11th or he might pick 18th depending on what happens in the playoffs.
But whatever happens say a 10-4 AFC team missed the playoffs Austria at 7-7 and a division winner would pick ahead of them whatever.
And Mario the power poll is just a bit like 'strength of schedule', it means nothing to the draft order really. If you are 5th in the power poll you wont pick 13th in round 1.
Anyway we'll see what happens in the playoffs

Jason, 2 answers:
1) Regarding draft order:
I do not get your point? i was just asking how draft order works and i thought it would be win/loss-ratio with the exception of the FWL-Bowl-Winner?
What was so ridiculous about that
and Pauls ranking WAS nonsense, i would never be 15th right now.
So?
2) Regarding my "GM-award" post:
i understand that not every person understands and shares the same kind of humor. No problem. At least some GMs understood - see your own reply their - really a good one. That is why i write things like that - to entertain FWLers.... ok?

The way the draft order works is teams records who didnt make the playoffs so we know roughly who picks 1-10. Now for picks 11-18 this is obviously all the playoff teams.
As i put in my first email that is to be decided depending on what happens over the next few weeks. At the moment if time froze then the wildcard teams would pick before you as they are not as high as a divisional winner. So picks 11-12 would be the wildcard teams, picks 13-18 would be the divisional winners. So the worst you would pick is 13th, if you win your first playoff game then lose you would pick 15-16th, win it all 18th.
So yes you are not 15th right now but you could be either 11-18th depending on what happens. If you lose this week and all the other wildcard teams lose then you would pick i would say 14th as teams 11-14 would be the four losing teams, if 3 of them are wildcard teams and you as the sole divisional winner you would pick ahead of them because those teams before you are just wildcards not divisional winners. If you lose and every other divisional winner loses as you have the worst record out of the 4 (7-7) you would pick 11th and if a Wildcard team made the AFC Championship or FWL Bowl they would pick higher.
As for the humour i agree that over the internet and just 'reading' rather than seeing expressions or change of culture its sometimes hard to get the humour. (Or humor as the americans would spell it !)

One win less and you wouldnt have been in the playoffs so yes you would have picked lower.
Niki pointed out last year that ...
"looking at the draft of last year New York was before Berlin and NY was a
division winner. I do not mind It was just someting I noticed because I know
I had a much better record then Austria"
So i think it should be....
11) Austria (7-7)
12 San Antonio (8-6) same record as Orlando but lost from Orlando
13) Orlando (8-6)
14) Amsterdam (9-5)

Dear almighty Commissioner: If you say "will be" instead of "should be" i would be fine....
no, just kidding: as i do not have a 1st rounder anyway i pass on this. i do not care which overall pick my 1st rounder is - but maybe Jonathan does?

Heh, I don't have any trouble understanding humor, or "humour" as the occupants of our vassal nations sometimes like to say.
I also don't have trouble understanding a post attempting to "humorously" move up in the draft.
As I am in the playoffs but likely to lose my first game, where would I be in the rankings?
...That's a fine question.
I should get pick#8 because of the power rankings!
...That's ridiculous.
On the other hand!
If you you can arrange your conference so that you don't have to compete with winning teams, get into the playoffs, and somehow end up talking your way into the #1 draft pick while doing so... I'd like to buy your book. Or bear your children.

to be honest i am not very much into NFL-proceedings (which obviously are the basis for FWL/FBPro-proceedings and until this thread i did NOT known that a 7-7-divisional winner/WC-game-loser is ranked higher than a 9-6 runner-up. Still sounds strange to me.
i first thought that only the SB/FWL-Bowl winner would be ranked 1st and all other teams in the NFL/FWL would be ranked
1) according to their W/L ratio and in case of a tie
2) according to "any" kind of a strange ranking (but first of all head-to-head)
but ok, i now understand all this and i am fine...
BUT: Reading Pauls(Nikis) post below i also understand that the PC does strange things sometimes....
AND: Regarding the divisions: I never attempted to be seated with weak teams. i only wanted to be seated in "my" AFC West. i would even play FRA, AMS and BER if anyone likes. i would NOT mind. But yes, i would mind to be seated in the AFC EAST.
Hope this post is the basis of a little more understanding for everyone here....

Well just like the NFL every few seasons the power swaps from division to division. The EFC West is very weak at the moment but that could all change, because historically Austria vs London was one of the best rivalries in football we wanted to bring that back and most GM's agreed. I've given up now trying to enter proper NFLE teams as 1) they could all fold next season 2) because of the history in our league everyone loves their own rivalries.
Niki was a great bloke for agreeing to go to the tough EFC East. Rhein look weak at the moment but Berlin surprised us all doing so well.
As for the EFC West yes its weak at the moment but Barcelona have the makings of a decent team, Scotland have fallen badly but they were in the FWL Bowl just 2 or so seasons back.
Like i say the power in each division changes, there was a time when the AFC West was weak as anything. The AFC East last year was won by New York who were just 7-7 and the only non-losing team in that division.
Two seasons ago every team in the EFC West (Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, Scotland) had winning records of 8-6 or more !

oh well no the only reason that I moved is that I have twice a season the change to beat Frankfurt, 1 victory is enough for me to have a great season

Humour !
The divisions are fine. I understand them.
I also like to poke fun at Mario. I could poke fun at, say, London, but how fun is that? Plus, the curse afflicting him and R-D might rub off on me, and I already have one with Curtis Alexander. Or Paul, but everyone makes fun of him already. Or Dave, but then he'd drive on over and start biting extremities, and that's no fun.
So Mario it is!
I think the draft order should reflect the worst individual rushing performance in the playoffs. I'm pretty sure Alexander's 7 for 9 in a run-heavy arrangement would pay off nicely.
