I forget if we've sorted the draft order out or not, here is the one the computer came out with...

Orlando
Mexico
Paris
Barcelona
Berlin
London
Raleigh-Durham
Rhein
Sacramento
Ohio
Frankfurt
Birmingham
Scotland
Montreal
New York
Amsterdam
San Antonio
Austria

Any changes to that ?

cmon paul we have been discussing this for weeks before last draft until we came to a conclusion how the FWL-draft should be ordered.

simple dig in the forum archives and take a look at yourself. no need to discuss this once again?

Can we some how produce a full blown draft list now and number the picks? That way any picks traded will be exactly identified and we'll avoid the trouble we had last year at draft time?

Is the draft order the same for all therouds - I know in the NFL it isn't?

Ok assuming the darft order doesn't change between rounds, the full draft list should look like this. There are probably errors as I've done it real quick, but we now have an idea :-)

I know everytime I speak up, it sounds like a complaint, however...

Last year or the year before, did we not discuss that since teams won in the playoffs, they would be seated above teams that lost, even if by worse  record?

So that should have me drafting ahead of Birmingham, because they won the 1st round game against me.

I agree, i'm sure we've always done it like that, as Birmingham made it to the AFC Game they pick after Montreal, thats the same in the NFL i believe.

Ross - Yep in the NFL it seems to change the order every round but every season in the FWL we've always had the same order so your list seems to be correct but Montreal should pick ahead of Birmingham

18th ranked team - FWL champs
17th ranked team - FWL Bowl runners up
16th and 15th ranked team AFC / EFC Champions runner up

To all:
We discussed draft order in detail last season in the forum and came to a conclusion how the FWL would adopt NFL-rules (wicht one exception). Here is the link once again:
http://fwl.pocketplane.net/index.php?topic=336.msg2478#msg2478

Regarding Davids post:
David is right, we (FWL) always applied that principle that WC-losers pick ahead of WC-winners and it is - as far as i understand it now - an exeption of adopting NFL-rules. NFL-rules FIRST do this......

1. The Super Bowl winner (Austria) is last and the Super Bowl loser San Antonio) next-to-last.

but the rest is based on the W/L-record, just as David himself stated in the old discussion in the thread above:

Does not matter that I beat NY on the road in the playoffs... an 8-6 Wild Card team does not draft behind two 11-3 Division winners!!!!!!

The Overall winner goes last, the Championship loser goes 2nd to last.  The rest is by record.

....and here is the NFL-tiebreaker in case of identical W/L-records.....

2. Any non-Super Bowl playoff club involved in a tie shall be assigned priority within its segment below that of non-playoff clubs and in the order that the playoff clubs exited from the playoffs.  Thus, within a tied segment a playoff club that loses in the Wild-Card game will have priority over a playoff club that loses in the Divisional playoff game, which in turn will have priority over a club that loses in the Conference Championship game. If two tied clubs exited the playoffs in the same round, the tie is broken by strength of schedule.

If any ties cannot be broken by strength of schedule, the divisional or conference tie breakers, whichever are applicable, are applied. Any ties that still exist are broken by a coin flip.

So using our exeption-rule the draft order among Playoff-teams would be

#18 Austria (Bowl)
#17 San Antonio (Runner-up)
===========
#16 Amsterdam (13-1)
#15 Birmingham (9-7)
============
#14 New York (12-2)
#13 Montreal (10-4)
#12 Scottish (9-5)
#11 Frankfurt (8-6)
============
Rest according to
1) W/L and in case of a tie
2) Strengh of schedule......
(i am too lazy right now to check this....)

Just to compare: If we would NOT use this exepton it would be:

#18 Austria (Bowl)
#17 San Antonio (Runner-up)
===========
#16 Amsterdam (13-1)
#15 New York (12-2)
#14 Montreal (10-4)
#12/ 13 Birmingham (9-5) / Scottish (9-5) (depending on strengh of schedule)
#11 Frankfurt (8-6)
============

Hope everything is clear now....

Do not know how you created you list but recording to OUR rules it would be (order by TEAMs, not by GMs holding other teams picks!)

Berlin
London
Raleigh-Durham
Rhein
Sacramento
Ohio
************
Frankfurt
Scotland
Montreal
New York
**********
Birmingham
Amsterdam
***********
San Antonio

i trhink we all agreed several times now that - as an exeption to NFL-rules - in FWL the WC-losers pick ahead of the WC-winners.....

as the PC most likely won´t have changed its decision it is paul who has either announced the wrong order in his first announcement "months" ago by falsely putting Mex ahead of PAR or he made a mistake right now.

the PC will tell us...

Paul?

P.S.:
Witch the lack of super-super-talents in this draft there is no harm done anyway wether one picks 2nd or 3rd....

Yeah my mistake, Mexico should be 2nd so i'll amend that.

Mario - The draft isnt that bad this year.  In the NFL you dont get top talent year in  year out, it would be unrealistic if we had the best rookies every year and as we've seen if you put too good rookies in the league it can mess things up, teams/players get way too good and the stats get worse and worse.  David/Jason have been doing a league for years and know about this problem.

As a GM its easy to say 'rookies are rubbish' but i would rather have the rookies down a peg or two to be realistic and to make sure the league runs properly.  Check out any NFL team, might have 1 or 2 rookie starters but never 4 or 5.

I think the draft crop is a decent bunch, not as good as last year when last years was too good.  Got some instant starters and a lot of players who just like the NFL will probably start in their second year.

It had Mexico at #2 all along , just my mistake when i typed them into the draft page yesterday.

As you drop down from 2nd to 3rd i'm sure you wont mind !

Mario - The draft isnt that bad this year.

I NEVER SAID THAT!!!

i am one of those who think all of our players are a bit overrated, so i think this "lowlight" draft is quite ok in order to balance it a little bit out.

i had soooo much luck in the last drafts with my high picks i really do not bother that in this my high pick won´t buy me an instant starter (not even a future superstar)- just because the other players that will come after my picks are worse....

The downside is that i fear that a sleeper might end up as "the superstar" as it is easy for sleepers to top the best players in the draft once the sleepers are upgraded....
