Many people thought last years draft was a good crop but if you look at the current stats for this season these are the best performing rookies....

Rhein HB Tony Hollings with 165 yards rushing (2.1 avg) and 2 td's.  17 receptions for 222 yards and another td (however has 3 fumbles)

Riders backup WR Chris Vance leading the league in kickoff return average (24.4)

Paris P Brian Simons 4th in the league with a 44.9 average

No rookie in the top 50 sackers or tacklers !

So far its been a terrible first half for rookies in the league and Tony Hollings who is having a very poor season so far seems favourite for the Rookie of the year award !  With 0-6 teams and other teams looking poor this year its a surprise theres not more rookies starting on these teams

General problem is that almost no rookies are starters; 3 startes in total: 2 with Rhein: HB Hollings and LB Kahui and 1 with paris Punter Simons

all other (including Riders WR Vance) are playing at back up positions.

The draftees on offense positions were from good quality but they are already of that qualities for many years so they all need a couple of TC before they can be stars (look at my HB Smith he is now 3 years and finally my starting HB)

DE/LB and DB were from a low quality so it was expected all of them would be back ups.

I do think that Hollings is pretty much guaranteed to get Rookie of the year even with a really bad season but in the NFL how many more starting 1st round pick would there be starting ? Keep in mind there is 32 NFL teams. In the FWL there is

starters(3)
Backups(6)
Backup backups(9)

I do think that a 1st round pick should not be a backup backups, but that could depend on the team

For me there is no way my first round pick Riggs Jnr is going to be starting ahead of DeMario Brown.
My thinking was one of a long term nature and after a couple of TC's hopefully Riggs can take over from Brown when he retires.

If anything its more realistic this year because a lot of rookies spend a year or so on the bench and then start.  A RB such as Gerald Riggs sometimes would start instantly in the NFL, other times might be a backup for a year or two and then take over.  Riggs with 1 or 2 training camps under his belt should be good enough to start for 8+ years.

Catch 22 really, on one hand i think more rookie 1st rounders should but on the other hand to be realistic not that many should.
