QB Danny Wuerrfel - MVP

It was a close call, it was rumoured Amsterdams QB Joe Hamilton, Mexicos HB Eric McCoo and Londons QB Drew Henson were in the running in the final week but in the end veteran Wuerrfel who is in his 12th season won MVP.  Hamilton and Henson have some great defenses and rushing games to help them, Wuerrfel on the other hand had the last ranked defense in the league and the 12th ranked rushing attack to 'help' him.

Wuerrfel who has won 3 FWL Bowls and has been to two others had a wonderful season leading Montreal to a 11-3 season and the top seed in the AFC.  Wuerrfel won many games this year thanks to last minute comebacks and produced another against Orlando to win the AFC West this week.

Rookie of the year was Rhein HB Tony Hollings.  Hollings had some very poor rushing games throughout the season but many people blamed his poor o-line for that.  Hollings had trouble on the ground but still rushed for a yard shy of 500 yards, but also caught 67 passes for over 700 yards.  If Rhein can sort out their offensive line Hollings could be very good after another training camp

European Offensve MVP was QB Joe Hamilton from Amsterdam.  It was rumoured that if London won the Week 14 clash Drew Henson would have won this award.  In a very tough EFC this year Hamilton had some brilliant games and led Amsterdam to a 12-2 record in the EFC and was the top passer this year by nearly 4 full points with a brilliant 110.0 rating.  He completed an amazing 73% of his passes and threw 16 td's with just 4 ints.

Defensively in the AFC Ohio DE Michael Josiah won the award with an impressive 20 sacks.  Josiah one of the best players in the league was double teamed for most of the year allowing Derrick Crawford to come from nowhere and get 20 sacks also !  Josiah had a brilliant second half of the season due to Crawfords now double teaming and the Ohio veteran and former 1st round overall pick had an amazing year for the Glory.

In the EFC CB Jeremey LeSuer became the first CB in ever in the EFC (and second ever overall) to win a Defensive Player of the Year award.  London had the top defense this year, they were 3rd against the run and number 1 against the pass.  LeSuer led London in tackles with 83, made 4 interceptions (joint top in the league) and limited opposing QB's to just over 3,000 yards, 11 td's and 8 ints all year.  LeSuer became a brilliant shutdown corner and deserves his award.

Hopefully soon, the computers already done the teams BUT theres a bug in the software which means it often puts a backup C from the AFC team in the EFC as a starter etc.

I have to weed through all the players to see what ones the computer has messed up on.

Having a quick look at Raleigh players which are in....

HB Curtis Alexander
LB Mawauko Tugbenyoh
S  Deke Cooper

Having a quick look at the EFC it has Amsterdam TE Kirk McMullen as TE1 (good choice) but Amsterdam backup TE Teyo Johnson as TE2 ? 16 passes so not a good choice so i'll change that as it looks like the computer has got confused

Well Teyo Johnson had a super season as TE2. 16 for 233 and 4td's

I must admit it would be strange when he would be TE2 but on the other hand TE Winston had once a 1000+ season and was not in the selection because other TE were better blockers etc.

But I must say it would be funny and starnge to have two TE's in the selection it would be a better choice if he was rookie of the year. Ofcourse HB Hollings had a good year but his avg was very low (2.6). My top 3 rookies (without my own rookies) are:
1) WR Chris Vance
2) HB Hollings
3) P Brian Simons

Well as i've said many times before the computer does keep values of each player throughout the season, granted Teyo Johnson might have been a great blocker but to make him All-FWL after 16 passes (granted he had 4 td's) i think is a bug.  The computer often chooses two players from the same team when its obvious only one should really make it.

I think Paris TE Scot Osbourne will be the TE2 as he led all EFC TE's...

55 receptions for 698 yards and 2 td's

Chris Vance did have a good year as a kick returner but 32 returns in 14 games compared to Hollings who had a combined 1,218 yards including 67 catches surely would be rookie of the year ? Hollings showed that he can make plays as his catches/yards showed but on the ground he struggled but i would blame the Rhein O-line for that as they were dire all year

I think trade of the year was Rhein and WR Scottie Vines !  Last year 0 catches, this year 97 catches and the second leading WR amongst WR's.  So much for me (and others) thinking he was way too small because of his low strength !  Great move Miguel

Nope he just missed out i'm afraid.

In the AFC it was...

TE Daniel Wilcox (Montreal)  47 for 562, 2 td's
TE Ryan Collins (Mexico) 51 for 649 yards, 2 td's

I'm sure Donald just missed out because of your 7-7 record.  I know that shouldnt always matter but with the software it often picks players who might be on a 10-4 team rather than a player who may have had a better year but were 7-7 etc

Donald was a great trade for you, i'm stunned what a poor first year Blizzard had with Scotland

I agree it would be a bug but so it was in season 13 when Todd Winston was not selected when he had a 1000+ season.

HB Hollings has a great future but I just think it is more impressive to have an 22.2 avg kick return then a 2.6 avg a a HB. Besides that Rhein had the fewest rushing firest downs (55!) That is why I think Hollings would be my nr.2 rookie of the year. But this year we have in general no top rookies

Also think its a qwirk in the system.  I cant believe the computer knows how to choose a KR or PR as the Rookie of the year.  Its like Def players of the year, you hardly ever get a CB (or LB), its always DE or DT for defensive players of the year.

I was gutted Winston didnt make the All FWL team that year, Swift and Fear made the team i think because their teams were 12-2 and 11-3 rather than Amsterdam at 9-5.  I cant believe you then benched Winston the next year Wink  I wont let you forget that Wink

well do not look surprised when I bench hamilton next year  Grin
I general my best player starts not the player with the best history, I already benched Winston, Insley, Shearer, Kuchi and Huerta after a good year. Next year the nominated are: Thurman, McMullen, Hamilton and Rodriguez

Yeah i must admit i can see your point, i do like things to be realistic, eg if a player has 80 INT but throws for 20 td's and wins the FWL Bowl i'll start him whatever next year.  BUT looking at some of the most winning teams in the past (Ams, Fra) you have tended to bench players once they reach an age and start to go downhill despite a good season in the FWL.  At the end of the day you keep winning games so it must work

BUT on the other side Montreal/San Antonio and myself are very loyal and on the whole these players have come through.  Bishop previously for the Riders, Wuerrfel and other vets for the Machine and for me i started Kinnon Tatum , DE Mark Word all year long and i have the number 1 defense.  Words skills have gone down but he keeps getting sacks, Tatum is a legend and he should be LB3 or less but its difficult for me to bench hiim !

Tatum was LB1 all year for me but in Week 14 was moved to LB3 and it'll be the same for the playoffs as Leake is my superstar LB
