Its that time of year when everyone is dreading what players they will lose, heres a quick look over the teams...

New York

Soumah was an expensive trade acquisition a few years back but a poor year made him retire.  TE Adam Young is a NY favourite and might join the coaching staff.

Orlando

A lot of defensive retirements which will hurt specially the d-line, Chatman and Simmons two long time Thunder players retire from the secondary.

Ohio

Lennie Friedman will be missed at S, veteran Tony Lukins will also be missed in the secondary.

Birmingham

All time leading TE Vincens Rodriguez retires after a great career, WR Dante Hall retires due to the emergence of Anthony Bright.

Sacramento

Jerome Davis who once had 20 sacks in a year retires after being on the bench all year.  Veterans LB Ayanbadejo and S Brutley are also bad losses.

San Antonio

Riders all time leading QB Michael Bishop retires as he doesnt want to sit on the bench another year.  Veteran WR Kendall Newsom is another loss.

Mexico

CB Chris Williams who was on IR for most of last year retires after his injury hasnt got any better, long time FB Hebert Goodman is another surprise retirement.

Raleigh-Durham

Lots of retirements here.  A lot of veterans including Skyhawks all time leading tackler S Deke Cooper.

Montreal

Great Machine FB Ricky Brown retires, Brown scored the winning touchdown in an FWL Bowl and has played in all 5 for Montreal.  HB Corey Walker a former starter also retires.

Frankfurt

WR Marcus Knight who had a great season last year and was on the trading block retires as a member of the Galaxy.

Berlin

Look for teams to pass on Berlin as their secondary is wiped out with 3 retirements.

Rhein

Some veteran losses, LB Andre Torrey a young player who was just a backup decides to quit.

Amsterdam

WR Elijah Thurman and S Jordan Younger, two great Admiral players both decide to retire at the top.  Thurman had a superb FWL Bowl and was nearly named MVP, CB Jordan Younger one of the top CB's ever retires due to a lingering foot injury which he cant seem to improve.  LB Jose Ruiz a 3rd round pick decides to retire and enter the CFL due to no playing time.

Scotland

No major retirements here, QB Jonathan Quinn who lost his job to Craig Nall retires.

London

All time leading tackler LB Kinnon Tatum calls it quits after an amazing career.  Fellow LB Brian Rogers also retires leaving London thin at LB.  WR Jim Turner who came over this year for two draft picks and who had a good year retires as does TE Ryan Prince.

Barcelona

A whole host of veterans leave the 0-14 team so the Dragons will need to do a lot of rebuilding.  3 veteran LB's leave.

Paris

Legendary Paris HB Robert Edwards quits after a big loss of form.

Paris

Legendary Paris HB Robert Edwards quits after a big loss of form.
Robert Edwards was the mainstay of the Paris / Cologne offense for many years, but finally age has caught up with him.

Some career highlights:-

  • Drafted with the first overall pick at the end of season 7 by Paris and named as starting HB immediately
  • In only his third game he ran for 108 yards and four touchdowns on 24 attempts
  • Ended his first season with 200 carries for 735 yards (79 long) and 11 TDs on the ground, with 66 catches for 664 yards (30 long) and 2 TDs through the air.
  • His best rushing season was season 13 where he managed 984 yards on only 199 carries for a healthy average of 4.9
  • Always a dual threat, he holds the current FWL record for receiving yards in a game, with 256 in a Season 13 shoot-out with Amsterdam
The writing was on the wall with the trade for Thunder Collins who took over at HB and promptly broke Edwards' team record of 11 rushing TDs in a season.

Wow forgot that amazing game he had receiving with over 250 yards !  Crazy !

Sad to see him go but the writing was on the wall like you said with Thunder Collins.  Given the chance last year with Collins out injured he was pretty poor sadly.  Great career and great to see it all with one team....

Near the end of his career i think his o-line was terrible, i mean he had that bad rushing year with a 2.8 average but caught over 100 passes for over 1000 yards !   Think his 1152 yards are the most ever by a RB in a single season.

Impressive he had 6 runs of 70 yards or more, 5 receptions of 70 yards or more as well.  Good talented RB, was on a poor team for most of his career but overall did well.  Retires as the 7th leading rusher of all time, not bad considering over those 11 years he was probably on overall the worst team record wise.
