What is it about the FWL and short field goals. Looking at the career stats for the top 34 kickers of all time, you'll see the following success rates:

under 20yards = 0.713
20 to 29 yards = 0.868
30 to 39 yards = 0.755
40 to 49 yards = 0.566
50 and over = 0.361

So, you're on the two yard line and fourth down, take a couple of delay of game penalties and you're 22% more likely to make the field goal  Huh.

yep, an 18-yarder has always been a gamble, FWL-kickers often miss it obviously due to the angle. btw: as a former kicker i can tell you that EVERY kicker prefers a FG from the 10yd line instead of the 1yd-line due to the angle when the ball is spottet on the "wrong" side (eg the right side of the field if the kicker is right-footed).

i am not talking about XPs, because the ball is spotted in the middle which makes it easy
