London GM resigns
«
on:
February 15, 2006, 11:02:40 AM »
That's it, I'm really gone this time. I came back making a deal with myself that I'd stick it out until my loss-win differential hit 4, and it has.
Paul, please find a new London GM at your convenience. I will continue to submit roster changes as injuries require but I will make no other moves and do not want any further credit (or debit) for London team results.
I'll continue to run the forum, of course, and follow the league as a fan.
I'm just sick to death of losing and am having absolutely no fun.

you will come back just like i did. Take some time off, relax, and you will come back later at some point in your life.
meanwhile:
it was fun having you as a "top-priority"-opponent. i do not have time to update the FWL-Classic-File right now but the final "Kreiner vs Compton"-head-to-head ("so far" i should say) is:
1) Kreiner vs. Compton Win/Loss: 9-6-1 (Kreiner up by 3)
2) Kreiner vs. Compton All time scores: AUS-LON 306-286 (AUS up by 30pts)
3) Kreiner@home: 5-1-1
4) Compton@home: 5-4-0
5) Highest win Kreiner against Compton: 20-9 (XXVI @AUS)
6) Highest win Compton against Kreiner: 23-7 (X @LON)
7) Most points combined: 55: AUS wins 28-27 (XXII @LON)
8 ) Most points Kreiner: 34: AUS wins 34-10 (XI @AUS)
9) Most points Compton: 27 (XXII @LON; XXIV @LON)
10) Fewest points Kreiner: 7 (X @LON: LON wins 23-7)
11) Fewest points Compton: 9 (XXVI @AUS: AUS wins 20-9)
12) Longest winning streak Kreiner: 3 (XXV to XXVII)
13) Longest winning streak Compton: 3 (I to III)
14) Current streak: Kreiner 3 (XXV to XXVII)
Good luck.

I just have to say I am personally really, really sorry that you are leaving. You have been a backbone GM in the league and will be a sore miss. I totally understand what you say though and the fun has to be there to some degree. Constant frustration can take that away (know the feeling). It says everything though that you kindly offer to continue to run the forum and follow the league as a fan. I hope Mario is correct and that after a refresher break you will rejoin as a GM. Please give this consideration. Thank you for all you have added in so many ways over the years.

Jason, I too want to say thank you for beeing a part of the league as one of the founding member.
We never had a rivalry (like with Mario), but some fine games between us
I wish you all the best and for us and the league I wish that you will return someday.
Even as you are from the US, you were allways an english gentleman for me and a great GM

Jason,
Sorry to see you have had enough, but constant losing is no fun.
Glad to see you'll be around just the same.
cheers

Thanks for all your kind words in public and private. Obviously in a game with no material reward for performance, winning and losing doesn't have any real impact, but I've always felt that in a hobby or pursuit that has no material payoff, pride naturally becomes a major consideration. And I really can't say I take pride in being, at best, a playoff also-ran in a league where I am clearly outclassed by many players in terms of knowledge and skill, and pretty patently not the beneficiary of much in the way of luck (unless, of course, it's luck that's kept me from being even worse than I have been over the years.) I can take pride in writing pithy articles about Rashon Spikes's love of a bowl of Grape-Nuts before a game or Latef Frim's needlepoint or how Jimmy Hoffa is buried under Kreinstadion's north end zone or whatever the hell, but after a while that gets to be a little silly if there's no sense of accomplishment connected to the experience.
My FWL glass was half full for the first 14 seasons of futility. After the results of the last playoff game and the opening strains of this year (worst start in franchise history, yay!) I just don't see it that way anymore.

Hi Jason
Just got back from my break
I am very sad you are leaving but i must admit i thought you would eventually leave specially after the frustration of last season. The Monarchs arent in a bad shape at all, 3 games losing by 3 points or less could easily put you at 3-1 instead of 0-4 but i do understand your reasons.
I'm talking to a few people at the moment about a new GM. It wont be the same having a new London GM as its amazing that you have been the Monarchs GM since day 1 and now in your 15th season.
I do want to thank you for all the emails, help, support and everything else during your time in the FWL, its great talking to you on email etc and please carry on and like others have said feel free to post anytime on the FWL forum or email me in general.
Its been tough as in the EFC we've had powerhouses like Austria and Frankfurt and Rhein in their earlier days and i can understand the frustration believe me.
Thanks for everything though and would be great to see you re-apply when another team is GM-less at some point in the future

You're ever the optimist. Sometimes I think you'd find a way to put a good face on nuclear annihilation.
Point is, I don't really get those 3 point breaks. Not often enough to keep me interested, anyway.

Yeah, it'll be weird and it's unfortunate. But I think it's also telling that with Andrew and me having purged our sub-.500 career selves, the league's only two remaining "all-time" GMs have at least one league title to their credit. (Ronnie took that year or so off, but at least has two EFC titles and many division wins.) It's only so charming being the unlucky loser.

Seriously London arent in too bad a shape as shown by the offense and defense this year. Cant believe how Lytle has gone from millions of fumbles to hardly any this year, strange !
Anyway i do hope you will appear here and post from time to time, all the best Jason
