Askew "Asks" for Trade

The frustration for long-time Surge HB BJ Askew reached the breaking point this week following the loss to New York. 

"After last season, I honestly thought that we had made improvements and turned the fortunes of this team around.  With some of the new talent we brought in during the offseason, I was excited about hitting the field and working hard to return the Surge to the FWL Playoffs," remarked Askew when interviewed.  "But instead it seems like we've taken 4 steps back...we haven't won a game this season but you can count on us to score 10 points, that's for sure.  I know there are plenty of teams in this league who would like to hand me the ball every down..."

Askew's interview was cut short by Surge staff, who made no comment when asked.

An official statement from the team was released a short time ago:

"The Surge greatly value BJ Askew and what he has contributed to this club.  He has great athletic ability and a desire to prove himself on the field, and most of all, he has an extremely strong desire to win.  We are certain that he can thrive in the right situation and have given him permission to seek a trade."

BJ Askew is a very talented player....

Things havent worked out for him in Sacramento but as you can see by all of his skills with the right team Askew could be excellent.  Bit of a chicken and egg situation in Sacramento, is it Askew or is it the offensive-line ?  On paper Askew looks very very good though

Shortly before the Week 5 games, BJ Askew was traded to the Orlando Thunder who were searching for a workhorse-type running back.  In return for Askew, the Surge brought back HB Mike Green, acquired an additional 2nd round draft pick and picked up a new starting center in Terrance Lenda.

"The Sacramento Surge feel that the trade with Orlando has helped our team, especially with the addition of Terrance Lenda.  Our offensive line woes are no secret, and we think that Terrance will bolster our offensive front and help open up running lanes for new starting HB Kory Chapman.  Chapman was acquired from Montreal (in Season 15) in a multi-player trade involving then rookie HB Quentin Griffin, and was one of the players brought over in the move of GM TC Finney from Paris to Sacramento.

Orlando picked up one of the most talented running backs in the league in BJ Askew, and we wish him the best with his new team.  The Surge will look for their first win of the season with a new offensive line arrangement and a new starting running back...and if that wasn't difficult enough, Sacramento will face one of the best defenses in the league so far this season.  There are rumors that if things do not go well over the next few weeks, that the coaches may start rookie QB Drew Olsen to get him some playing time with the plan of starting the youngster next season."
