Retirements

A look at some of the retirements in the FWL....
Orlando
Some Thunder legends retire such as LB Muadianvita Kazadi and TE Stevan Fontana. Former Monarchs starter LB Keith Miller also retires
Ohio
A lot of retirements for Ohio, the most painful being WR Bosley Allen. Allen came over from New York in a big trade but an injury derailed him for a large part of the year, after seeking medical advice Allen decided to retire as he couldnt get over his injury. Veteran S Corey Gaines a Ohio legend also retires.
Birmingham
One time starting QB David Ward retires and so do two talented defensive players.
Sacramento
Former starting QB Jake Delhomme retires after 13 years in the league. FB Mike Green a former starter with several teams also calls it quits
San Antonio
Only HB Patrice Kancel retires, Kancel goes out in style after arriving as a FA and having some great games for San Antonio in the second half of the year.
Raleigh
A whole host of names retire, DT Matt Sweeney will hurt, veteran LB Kendall Ogle finally calls it quits and two veteran offensive linemen are also amongst the names.
Montreal
A lot of key veterans stay but DT Paul Spicer is a huge loss
Rhein
Veteran QB Dani Pegnaute who holds a whole host of Rhein passing records decides to retire rather than be a backup.
London
A lot of Monarch players retire but veterans such as DE Word and LB Tatum stay on. DE Lorn Mayers who came over from Amsterdam for a 2nd round draft pick retires after being fed up of being on the bench. Mayers will try his luck in the CFL instead.
Scotland
Big loss as DE Jabbar Threats decides to retire at the top. Veteran LB Brennan Swanson who had a great career with Scotland also calls it quits as do many other big Claymore names.
Barcelona
S Ligarious Jennings will be a loss but legend Dameyune Craig decides to retire after 14 seasons in the league.
Paris
Veteran QB Matt Lytle who was a starter for Amsterdam/London and who holds the record for most fumbles in a season/career retires after another year as Paris backup

Yeah i'm surprised at that. Even though Austria hasnt got many veterans you do get a fair few young players retiring which at times seems quite random. Also you could say 'perhaps' that as Austria play their backups a fair few games that might help. Saying that its probably completely random in the software but it sounds good though !
I'm gutted DE Lorn Mayers retired, he was going to see a lot of action for me over the next 10 years but this year was just a backup till he improves a fraction more.
VERY strange thing about the FA's. I do the rosters and theyre appearing, i go in the software and click on 'sign free agent' and i see only rookies. The veteran FA's arent on the list at all ? Load up FBPro Edit and theyre not there either but must be somewhere in the software because they appeared on the rosters as FA's.
Strange, hope theyre not 'lost'

Steve Fifita retired for Barcelona, In my opinion that is the worst. He was there 1st round pick in this draft(Season 17 6th overall pick) and had alot of potential must have been tired of sitting on the bench all season.
I am relatively happy with my Retirements other than Sweeney but he was old

Didnt spot that one, must admit thats a very bad one and its tempting to unretire him.
Still cant believe DE Mayers retired ! Did want to start him the final few weeks but as i was fighting for the top seed i had to keep all my starters in

I had the same with DT Aubrayo Franklin, I drafted him in round 1 and after the year retired.
The year before I had the same with a R LB i traded for that year LB Kenny Jackson
I can understand that 5 year old stars that retire will be unretired but rookies that see no action at all (in the case of Stve Fifita, Jackson and Mayers) is a risk you take by not giving him any action.
Frabkfurt has for the 3rd time (or so) a young HB that retired, everytime he is creating a good HB he is retired before he starts.
I am not a fan of unretire young players without any historie but if a player like CB Jeremy LeSure (3 years) or QB Rodgers (3 years) retires (no by career ending injury ofcourse) I agree that it would be an option to unretire such a player.

In ANY league players "retire" for several seasons during the off-season (death, go to jail, injuries....).
If anyone starts to ask for unretirements i´ll drop out of the league because early retirments of players of each level are part of the game.

I do agree, sorry when i wrote 'its tempting to unretire him' i didnt mean i would do it or anything. I just meant out of a lot of players who should unretire IF we did that he would be on the list but we dont. As Niki points out a lot of teams have had bad luck in the past so it would be unfair for someone to get unretired.
I think we need random things like this happening in the league, now teams who may have been quiet have to be more active and retirements encourage a fair bit of trading and move involvement with the draft.
I like to think as we're simulating NFL Europe then these players went to the NFL or CFL !
But i'm stubborn with things like this, if we did this since day 1 then yeah perhaps but as we havent then we dont. David has a good method in his league though, if a young player retires (depending on his age) then a random number decides whether he will come back or not, the older the player is the less chance.
But i cant complain, Word and Tatum stayed on another year but i must admit this quote...

...is rather amusing ! Are you saying Mario if one of your talented backup RB's suddenly retired you wouldnt kick up a fuss ? Come on be honest !

of course i would go nuts, scream, cry, blame the commish.... but anyway: i would never ask to unretire a player

Barcelona's retirements have to rank at the top of worst ever:
Barcelona Dragons
Retired:
Steve Fifita (DT), 1 season
Tom Arth (QB), 6 seasons
Kelvin Moses (LB), 11 seasons
Dameyune Craig (QB), 14 seasons
Ligarius Jennings (S), 10 seasons
Their 1st round draft pick in DT Fifita (as mentioned in other posts above).
2 QBs which leaves them with Travis Brown, acquired in a trade with Raleigh-Durham, but do the Dragons have confidence in him?
In total, 10 QBs retired at the end of Season 17.
But, should make the offseason very interesting.

Mario - why don't you leave then.
Paul - I think any player that is drafted in the 1st round and is on the bench and retires is bullshit, and we should allow for them to be unreitred.

Did we NOT unretire a player for SAC a few years back?
Paul - I would LEAVE this league if I had a 1st round player retire.
Save your sarcasm, as I know what Mario would say...

I know what you are saying, perhaps we should have rules regarding 1st round picks but we've had some retire in the past because theyve sat on the bench a season or two
Plus i've heard nothing from Barcelonas GM anyway so he doesnt seem too bothered !
